I know this is probably a really dumb question but do LED's just turn on automatically at night, or do they stay on all the time when the car is on, or do you have to turn them on?

It is really how you wire them up. You can wire the power to a source that is always "hot".. or a source that is only "hot" when you turn the key, or just wire them up to a constant source and use a switch.

But to help everyone out, what kind of LEDs are you thinking of getting? the kind that go under your car? inside the car? etc.

inside the car and in the grill area

in that case, you can wire them however you want. mine are wired to the back of the lighter with a switch. this means they can always be turned on. some other possible ways you could do it (you'd have to research how).... on/off with interior lamps, or foglights, or blinkers, or radio... or else on/off with the car. I can't really think of anything else, but this leaves room to be creative. hell, if you wanted you could probably find a motion sensor and have whatever turn on whenever someone is inside your car.

so basically I just hook them up to any power source and depending on the source it will determine how they run?

it sounds like you've never done this before, so I'd advise you to learn more about it before you try it...

But yea, you can draw power from anywhere you want, just as long as you don't overload the circuit. I would advise drawing from a circuit that is non-essential to your car functioning properly. You don't want to be driving down the road and have the fuse for your headlights go out.
