Spilled oil on carpet

A partial bottle of oil leaked on my carpet. I've tried carpet foam and the Hoover steam vac, but there's still oil in the carpet. Anybody know how to get it out? Maybe a different detergent in the steam vac?

OOOooooo That's a tough one. Maybe some carb cleaner( to break down the oil) and a sponge to pull it up.
What ever you find to do the trick,Plz post it.

carb cleaner is some heavy duty stuff, try it in a non obvious spot first (Like a closet) to make sure it does not kill you carpet.

I would suggest something a little less drastic, like a little dish soap. soap breaks up oil, right?

OK. Try this simple and cheap solution. Shaving cream and water.

Spray a generous portion of shaving cream (NOT GEL!!!) on the spot. Work it in with a wet scrub brush. Let it sit for a bit. Blot it up with a terry cloth bath towel. Let dry. Vacuum.

I have actually removed tar from the house carpet this way. And this is also how I do all my interiror car cleaning, and stain removal on carpets and on furniture in the house. It should work on your spill.

Try it and see. Nothing to lose. For sure it won't make it worse.

I'll just throw some things out there--perhaps OxyClean or that 2-chamber carpet cleaner that combines when you squirt it (can't remember what it is called)?

Have you tried some FastOrange? That might work? I dunno, maybe BBT's shave gel idea will work better because he's actually had it work. I'm just guessing at stuff I think might work... Good Luck anyway!

Thanks for the tips. I'll start with the shaving cream. My passenger front carpet is going to be the cleanest part of the entire car once I finally get this crap out.

Damn, that shaving cream is a great tip....I'll have to try that sometime.
If you are still stuck with the oil stain, Dawn dish liquid soap has excellent grease dissolving properties; might be worth a try. Gentle stuff too.... Good luck !

No no no! Not gel. Old fashioned shave cream. Gel has oils in it.

Just want there to be no confusion about that.
