Hopefully someone didn't do this poll already. Just for general interest's sake, I was wondering how many people out there actually had a stock HU still in their car?
Personally I can't think of ever using a stock HU in any car I owned, ever again... But it is getting harder to change OEM HUs these days, particularly with the custom dash shapes and vehicle features integration they have going these days. I also realise (though it kinda makes me ill, lol) that some people may not really desire anything other than factory audio...
Anyway if you have a second please answer the poll! :)

I have the stock, but I have a system hooked up to it. At first I hated the stock, but it has grown on me. I guess what's keeping me away from putting in the aftermarket is the amount of space that would be left free.

Well, guess I'll be first, lol.....
I am keeping my stock head unit in my 2000 GT1 because it has the 8 speaker sound, and the radio has that 7 band EQ and satisfies me quite nicely. Actually, those little sail panel tweeters really enhance the sound too. That particular modle radio has the notorious volume control audio problem though... but my dealer has just ordered me a new from from Delco/Delphi with a better volume control installed; I should have it in about a week.
I don't really need that pounding bass any more; I've "been there - done that " way back in the 70's with my Trans Am and Firebird Formula 400, but those good ole' days are gone now, lol. I'll leave that to the next generation now...
Of course, that is not in infer that I listen to Beethoven or Dean Martin music; I still blast my '70's and '80's stuff too. Hey, I aint over the hill yet, lol !!!

EDIT >>> Oops.. I was typing at the same time.. I am the 2nd person to reply; not the first, lol....

I threw my stock HU (radio/cassette) from my 95 out of the window the first chance I got. My old set up for playing CD's was using a regular CD player with a tape adapter plugged in to the HU and the power source plugged into the cigarette lighter. The sound I am now getting from my Pioneer HU is about a million times better than my stock one.
Money well spent, in my opnion. Though I understand why some of the people with the monsoon system are happy with keeping the factory set up. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I loved my stock head unit, but it just didnt have what I need, cause I have aftermarket sepakers and they just didnt perform the way they could with the factory deck in. SO I went and picked up a new deck with a CD player

i still have my stocker but because i have the monsoon and i dont want to mess up the sound i already have so getting just a new HU is money that i dont need to spend.

My stock plays MP3's fine...no problem at all. I made my own compilations of CD's here on the computer, and the stock radio plays every single one without failure. I used Maxell CDr's, if that matters... That CD burning stuff is new to me, lol... I really don't know too much about it.
I downloaded tunes from WinMX, and simply burnt to CDr's.
Gee, I'll probably have the damn copyright police here now, lol...
I was sad to see the demise of WinMX though... It was great while it lasted though.

I have my stock and love it! the hu atleast. I did add my 2 10" infinities and what not, but never took anythng out... just added. i did have an alpine cd player i bought for my car before the grand am... it was about a month old before i said screw it, its new car time.... but with mp3's and stuff like that... no point of taking out that radio and buying yet another radio... so.... im stock and love it! (first car I have had that hasnt had an aftermarket though) but my first one was a 84 delta 88... so no cd's blew... and my 96 olds hu died on me :(

aftermarket but am getting kind of suprised at the newer models of GM that are coming out with the MP3 CD players, even the speakers put out some good bass, but not as much as I am wanting. It would be nice if I could incorperate that sound into the system Im going to have going here soon.

I had a stock HU for awhile...it doesnt sound that bad, but because of the subs I have (2 12" blackmores) I needed a new HU for sound quality and noise amp was making after I would turn off my car.

My 02 GA came with a factory Monsoon system. After my stock HU crapped out, I decided to keep the factory speakers and get an aftermarket HU with 2 12" subs in the trunk. The aftermarket HU destroyed my stock rear speakers and car seemed really heavy with the subs. So I went back to stock by getting a stock MP3 HU found in 04+ GA's and got another pair of new stock rear speakers. My friend has aftermarket speakers all around and an aftermarket HU and he was really surprised at how much bass my Monsoon system put out. I am not a fan of blasting my music, so Monsoon is good enough for me. It gives me bass without adding weight.

i hate my stock receiver, its cd player had died on it. the volume control is a little disfunctional, and the eq leaves a lot to be desired. not to mention, sometimes it just gives me an error, and then i push a few buttons and it goes away, and somethimes the display will completely frag out. usually when i first start the car.

I have a sony headunit. Probably about 2-3 years old. And my lord what a peice of crap it has turned out to be, I cant play new CDs unless a burn copies of them of they will skip/not play, Half the buttons dont work, lucky i have the remote still to work the thing or it would be un usable. I am in the search for a new HU but i want something with red lighting like the stock red lights everwhere else in the car, and most ever stereo has blue light (reson why i got the sony in the first place) I have been thinking about getting the factory CD player (my factory one is just a tape player)
Anyways, anyone know of a good HU with red lighting

You should know Sony sucks ass...period, nothing more to say about it. If I ever bought sony I wouldn't expect it to perform past the name it has created for itself...which is "pure crap". My clarion has red that matched stock lighting...Just find something that has a numerous amount of colours, it should have red...
