Are there any alternative to hooking up an MP3 player to your car besides that stupid fm transmitter which sucks. I have the stock unit and am wondering if it has the aux function and if so could I possibly hook up the MP3 player to the back of the head unit ?? or any suggestions at all, thanks guys !! Sorry I'm a newb to this MP3 situation. I don't have an iPOD I have a dell DJ, but I doubt that makes a difference besides buying the porduct that fits your MP3 player.

Stock headunits don't leave many options for MP3 playback other than FM modulation. Otherwise you'll need an aftermarket headunit that offers MP3 CD playback or aux input.

This may not be the best way but it is really cheep. The few times that I use my MP3 player in my car I use a tape adapter. The quality isn't THAT great, but it works.

I would just hard wire it myself. I think that would be the best way to get some good sound quality.
I read some other forums where people are buying FM modulators putting it on a weak station and the mp3 player will over power it but most complain that the sound quality sucks.

You can search on Ebay for stock MP3 players found in 04+ GA's or maybe other GM cars. They should be plug and play. That's what I did. It sounds great and it's much easier to use than an aftermarket unit I used to have.

You can't. Hence my suggestion above.

The Grand Am isn't listed on PAC's application list for aux module. Additionally...
The sedan or SUV/truck factory headunit must have a separate working slave unit which uses the GM 9 pin connector (1995-2002 vehicles). Slave unit examples are: external CD changer, cassette player and/or single CD player.
IMHO $55 and cost/hassle of a slave unit, that money and time could be better spent getting a better quality aftermarket deck that features a non-ghetto-rigged aux input.

Not sure if it'll work with his car though because or this...
Requirements for AAI-GM9: The sedan or SUV/truck factory headunit must have a separate working slave unit which uses the GM 9 pin connector (1995-2002 vehicles). Slave unit examples are: external CD changer, cassette player and/or single CD player.

YTF do they have it listed in the GA store..? Weird.
Anyways, the only trade-off I see here is that he already has an mp3 player and wants to plug it in. Why burn mp3's to CDs when you already have them stored on your player?
Hell...if you want a better solution Customized by a cheap HU with an auxiliary external input jack. I have one and plug my iPod directly into the face via RCA cord. Sound quality is only dependant on the bitrate of the mp3's I have stored then...well, and the limitations of thte stock speakers. LoL

Alright, cool man, I think I'll just buyu a deck with an aux input for the damn mp3 player, it's just a convenience factor and I have EVERYTHING on this player, so all of my older CD's are just collecting dust now, it's just time to figure out how to hook this puppy up.
Sikmindz, what brand headunit do you have where it has the RCA jacks facing outwards ?

An Aiwa HU. Bought it in 99 so it's about 6 years old now and (knock on wood) I've never had a single problem with it. Doesn't skip either. I can plug my laptop, iPod, CD player, PDA, walkman...whatever has a headphone/aux. out jack.
Here's a pic. The input jack is to the left of the 2nd blue button on the bottom right of the HU. Not sure if you can see it or not:

Is that a CDC-MP3? I got on the waiting list to get one when they first came out... turned out to be the worse headunit. Ever. It skipped more than played, and I went through 2 of them. I finally put my fist through it a couple years ago. How'd you get so lucky with it?

Nope..no mp3 capability. I love mobile electronics and was going through a phase between an portable mp3 player, CD and MD at the time so I wanted something that I could plug all three into.
I've only heard the thing skip once when I hit a massive pothole that almost sent me careening off the road. Other than the blue I love it.

I know they make what you want for the Ipod but for some reason I can't find one for the GA online but I have seen an Ipod adaptor for the GA in the store but this is all I found online.
Ipod stock HU adaptors (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?navLevel=5&type=category&navHistory=cat00000%2Bcat03000%2Bcat03064%2Bpcmcat 59100050005&id=pcmcat59100050007)
I hope this stupid best buy link works.....if not I found it at BESTBUY (http://bestbuy.com)

Ok... I'm jumping in on this question, cause I really didnt see it answered.
I too am going to hook an MP3 Player (also the Dell DJ) up to A head unit. I have one now, but I'm going to sell it locally and get one with an Aux. In. I see some of these say I-pod rdy or whatnot... Can You use the same adapters to hook your Dell DJ in?
Basically, I am thinking that you would hook it into the Aux. In., but I am wondering if this works for the Dell DJ too.
If anyone has any info, hit me up. Cuz I want to know if this will work before I get a Dell DJ, instead of an Ipod

If your mp3 player has a headphone jack it will work. you can get a headphone to RCA cord. Then plug it in. BTW i would suggest getting a deck with the AUX inputs in the back if your only gonna use it for your MP3 player, you can run it down into your little cubby hole thing so easily and you won't have cords hanging down and your MP3 player will be snug and secure. Even if your occasionally using it for your laptop, my cord is long enough to reach to the passenger seat.
This is exactly how my iPod is hooked up. It's so sweet. Sounds flawless.
Salystix: if it has aux it will work. iPod ready ones have inputs where you can control the skipping of songs from your HU.
OffTopic: SikMindz, does having your plastic around your gauges annoy you, or is it fine?
