Well, hopefully I can describe this enough that someone can help..
Editing for the reading impaired...
This is NOT a recall related issue according to Pontiac
This is NOT relating to the actual turn signal blinking quickly or at random.
This IS about the turn signal NOISE going off at random when the turn signal and hazard lights are not activated.
Now, please read the rest of the post and feel free to offer any ideas as to how I can rememdy this situation.
Thanks.

1999 GA SE2
When I turn on the turn signal or hazard lights, I hear a tick-tick type sound that corresponds with the blinker light going on and off. This is completely normal.
Problem I have is that after the turn signal is off, I sometimes hear tha noise it makes all by itself. The blinker lights are not blinking at the time, it's just the NOISE that they make that is happening all by itself.
Anyone had this happen before and/or have any idea what might be wrong? I'm thinking it's whatever switch causes the blinker sound to go off is somehow triggering itself. When the turn signal is actually ON it makes the noises like it's supposed to. It's only when the turn signal is OFF that it will make the noises at random.
Any ideas? The dealer did replace the turn signal pole thing a couple years ago but it didn't help. And this problem is very random. It's been doing it for the past week, but hadn't done it in probably over a year before this. I'm stumped. :)
Thanks.

That thread talks about when the blinkers blink at a fast rate. That's not what mine does When I turn on my blinker, everything works normally. Problem is when the blinker is OFF. THat's when I hear the blinker NOICE (no actual blinkers blinking, just the noise of the blinker). It blinks at random. Soemtimes just twice, sometimes relaly fast for 10 seconds.
And I think the recall was on the 2000 model and I have a '99.

Please search, there are quite a few threads about this.
There is a recall on the flasher relay unit. Contact your dealership to see if it affects your vehicle though...it thought it was only 99-02 models. :)

The recall is only for 2000 to 2002 or so. It does NOT apply to 1999. My car is a 1999 model which is why I posted this thread.
Also, this is NOT related to the turn signal flashing quickly or at random. This is ONLY about the NOISE of the turn signal going off at random. NOT the lights.
If anyone has any ideas about what makes the turn signal NOISE, please let me know as that is the problem I'm having.
I guess I'll update the OP to try to make it more obvious since people can't seem to read the whole thing...

The recall is for a flasher relay clicking but not nessasarily turning on the lights :D...smartass!
If you already know about the recall and you know it's not for you model year then post that in the original thread! Otherwise people (like myself) see that and tell you to search because as far as we know, you're clueless to the recall. We did read the whole thing...you just didn't put all the information in there. :roll2:

What other information did you need? See where it says 1999 in my note son the side? The recall is not for that year. What else do you need to know?
Yes my thing makes the noise and the lights do not go on. I called Pontiac and they told me I was able to get the hazard switch thing swapped out dur to a different recall. So I talked to the local dealership who told me that having the hazard switch thing replaced would NOT solve my problem.
He said that when he had seen it before and it was Carbon Tracking on the MultiFunction switch. Carbon builds up over time and there's enough on there that it lets a small amount of current go through, enough to make it make the noise, but not enough to make the lights actually turn on.
Of course he said because I have Cruise Control, it's $350 to replace the switch.
Guess it's time to do some resaerch about replacing that switch on my own. Or I just ignore the noise an dturn up the radio when it starts clicking like crazy. :)
Sorry for being sarcastic but I hate when people assume things that aren't stated. I woudln't post here unless I had already checked the recall information. Now other might not do that, but making assumptions just makes everyone look bad...

A LOT of people don't do the research before posting. So when you ask a question and don't state that you already know about recalls, or whatever else...people will assume that you don't know. It's just how it goes man.
It doesn't sound like it's the multifuntion switch if the lights are not actually turning on. I'd replace the $25 flasher relay before I spend $350 on the stalk.
Good luck with it man :)

Just because your car isn't covered by the recall do you think it magically makes your car immune to the symptoms and their fix?
Maybe YOU need to read the whole recall notice and figure that maybe, just MAYBE, you have the problem described in it and maybe, just MAYBE, the solution proposed might work on your car too, although you'll have to pay for it.

Too late. Already posted what the actual solution is per the service area. Not covered by the recall.
Thanks for playing.

AH HA! I knew there had to be a fix to this that someone already knew. Finally found it:
http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7859
Of course the thread title made it not show up when I did a basic search or I wouldn't have had to post this at all.
Time to try this out tonight. Or maybe tomorrow since I have volleybal tonight.
Thanks all!
