Ok, so when I get in my car and turn it on and drive off, if i get on it alittle make it go to like 3 grand or so i hear a water sound, like there is water gushing under the dash, it has been going on for a month or so, or atleast i just noticed it recently. I have no idea what it could be, but im guessing something to do with the coolant maybe in the heater core area. Does anyone else hear this, is it normal?

used to hear this in my 2000 Dodge Ram I had on rental for about a month... since it was a rental, I never got it checked, but yea, likely coolant rushing around... maby the thermostat is stuck open (which a failsafe should)

Sounds like you may have air bubbles in your coolant.

Your loosing your heater core. water is draining out as the car sits, when you fire it up the water rushes or is pushed by the pump through the core, making a running water sound.

Start doing back streches so you can climb up in there.

Last time I changed the core, I put some Permtix #2 on the swivle in/out put lines on the core. That little almost cloth like gasket thing just don't hold. My car did smell like peratax for 3 days, but it went away after that. Sold the car not to long after that so I don't know if it made it last longer.

Watch your water level, it will start getting low. Also if you turn the heat on and it smells sweet kind of... thats the anti-freeze dripping out of the core and the fan blowing it at you.

If your not losing coolant and not overheating, then my guess would be a blocked plenum drain. Condensate builds up in the plenum and it sounds like the tide surging. Snake it out with a coathanger.

well i am hopping its not the heater core itself since i had it replaced about about 2 years ago.

I was thinking maybe get the system flushed, i have never had it flushed (unless they did when they replaced the core.

I sounds like air in the coolant system. When the engine revs, bubbles pass through the heater core and makes noise. The bubbles should work themselves out. Keep the coolant level where it should be.

Any white smoke, overheating and milky oil?

Or maybe the air worked it's way out.

My friend tempo has been doning that for the longest. And it was just the coolant rushing around in the heater core. My grand am does it but you can't hear it unless the car is off and you were using the heater..

check the LIM gasket seal (on the right side of engine) to see if its sweating/leaking onto the block.
This LIM gasket problem on GM engines has been going on long enough without any soluitions from GM. Time for a class action suit to re-dress GM executives. dealers love the problem cause it brings money, GM loves the problem as long as it happens after the warranty period - I call it engineering marketing.

Cheers

No white smoke, no overheating, dont know about the milky oil, but i checked my oil level about a weekago and saw nothing on the dipstick to indicate that.

I'd say its the heater core this happened to me, i had to burp the system, i just backwards filled it since there is no bleed valve on my model...

I have that happen occasionally on mine too. I think they have an affinity for air entrapment. I have also heard the same of rare occasions on my wifes subaru. And some other vehicles too.
If there is air and its slowly disappearing then you would have to add some coolant. But at some point it should stablize.
If it was a heater core you would know that for sure.
I would n't worry abou it unless it gets worse.

have any problems with the lower part of the windshield fogging up? or smell any hint of a sweet syrup smell when you turn the heat on? I know my core is leaking cuz I can smell that smell and the lower part of my windsheild will fog up when I first turn the heat on but goes away when I use the defrost. Must not be real bad because theres nothing coming inside the car,no stains or wet/damp spots on the carpet under the dash

I have the same problem since i replaced my heater core. I guess there are air bubbles in the system. Usually happens on cold startups about 1 min. down the road. I don't lose coolant, but its been going on for about 10 months now, since the heater core replacement. Would love to learn how to take the air bubbles out. Let me know.
