Ok I am looking at some 5 1/4" components for the front doors. and some 6.5" Speakers either components or coaxial's, havent decided yet, for the rear deck. However, The fronts are rated at 60W RMS and the rears are rated at 70W RMS. But then the description on e-bay also says recomended amp power 25-150W for both the fronts and rears. Now the amp I am looking at is the JL 300/4 which is rated at 75W RMS @ 1.5 - 4 ohms at 11 - 14.5 volts. Do you think/feel that this amp will be ok powering these speakers or will it over power them?? I would assume/think it should be ok considering its all JL products and why would JL make speakers that their amps cant handle?? Anyway, please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance.!!!

keep the front gains, well rear too, down and it shouldn't be a problem. more wattage really only becomes a problem when you make the speakers distort. i've got 75 watts on the 5 1/4 components and i think they're rated for 35 or 40 RMS.

Like Matt said, as long as they aren't distorting or start to distort after playing for a while, then they'd be fine. If they are distorting turn it down a bit. Check Crutchfield.com and they have somewhere on there how to set the gain to an amp.
It's something like ( i know i'm gonna miss a step)
1. Turn the gain on the amp all the way down.
2. Turn the volume on the HU up slowly until the speakers start to distort.
3. Turn it back until the sound is clear (but of course quite because the gains down)
4. Turn the gain on the amp up until it's as loud as you would play it, or until the speakers start to distort.
I think that's all...this will help match the optimal gains of the HU and amp without overdriving the speakers.

Well getting brand matches really mean nothing. Realistically its better to get an amp that will overpower the speaks then keep the gain low for lower distortion and much cleaner sound. Jl makes a clean amp already though. In my oppinion that amp will work fine. Best thing to do is just turn gain down all the way and turn the volume to the highest you like to listen to. Adjust the gains until the sound is the best with no distortion and leave it alone from then on. Wow I should have read all the posts first before writing this. Chain cleared up the question nicely.

the jl amps put out good clean power so they shouldn't hurt the speakers
100w of clean power is better for speakers than 50w of unclean power
by clean i mean good THD (around .01% or better) and good SNR ( like >100db), if you don't nkow what it means then look at the specs for the amps, jl amps meet those criteria, most other amps don't ( like rf, mtx, sony, non gti jbl amps, etc...)
my amp for my components is a audison srx2, it does 65wx2 and has thd of .005% and snr of 115db, this little amp is louder and cleaner than any other amp i've had on my components, to include a jl 300/2, rf 551x, rf T400.4, rf 250@2

That is nicely put, tommymcc.... I can tell from reading some of your posts that you know your audio gear quite good...

Again I didnt read all the post before I wrote my original message sorry for not giving credit where credit is due. Bjornboy. Off subject but JL just got ahold of mtx's and forgates lead amp techs. So they should out do themselves on everything on there 06 line. One other thing you can do to clean up your amp even more is try to find a preamp/eq that will up the signal strenght from your deck. Your amp will perform even better.

the rockford guys are leaving because rf lost the mb quart contract and they picked up some of jvc's products, notice how the new jvc amps look just like 04-05 punch amps
i'm so glad that quart is going back solo, rf almost ran them into the ground
