Nice! What condition is it in currently? Doesn't look too bad from the pics (which obvioulsy can't say that much, lol); but the engine looks alright at least :)
Awesome little cars those Fieros :)

Sorry, I'm late to reply, been very busy working on a Sunfire.
Yes it runs, needs a water pump. It's in pretty good shape for a car that's 20yrs old. I was surprised it still had the original spare tire and jack. The paint is a bit sun bliztered, but workable. The main thing was that it's water tight and everything works. Even has cold air cond..
It's a 2.8 L, 5spd. Getrag
disk brakes all around.
I'm going to drive the chit out of it and give my GA a break to save from putting miles on it. Then next summer,I'll drop in a Northstar or something bigger in it. VrrrRoommmm
Can you believe it was at this guys cabin on top the mountain. My brother-in-law and I had to use the wife's truck to get it at the half-way point up the mountain. Rolled it down to there w/ no booster for brakes. I must say it was one hairy ride, lol, sliding most of the way.

thats one on my list of most wanted GM vehicles. and 2.8L with the getrag, a very nice find indeed.

Nice find! The 6 cyl with the manual trans is a little harder to find than the 6 with the 3-spd auto...

Yep cool thing about the Fiero is people have swapped all kind of engines into them from L67s to Northstars. The LA1 (3400) is probably the easiest and most economical swap and will still make it quick but you can put pretty much anything in there--so many people have done engine swaps on them :)

Hmm, is the booster leaking? Just asking because a common problem for the brake booster on the Fieros is this stupid little filter that goes on the firewall behind the engine. It is a vacuum filter that goes on the line right after the engine and sometimes it gets blocked or cracks and therefore the vacuum can't get to the booster which is all the way at the front of the car. (Also since the vacuum line has to go all that way, the line might be split/leaking which would also cause the loss of power braking.)Anyway, just a tip in case you haven't looked into it ;)

I envy you. The '88 Fiero GT fastback has been one of my all-time favorite cars, particularly with the 2.8 5-speed. You're my hero. :gravey:

Me too. I'd love to get a nice GT someday & do a v8 swap. Most likely a warmed over Northstar.

id like to take the fiero a different direction and try to wedge 3.1 turbo mclaren in there :D
if i could even find of those badboys.
if i couldnt, id get whichever v6 will bolt up to the getrag and not rip it to shreds under normal driving.

I saw somewhere a few weeks back on a search that someone is building a turbo v8 Fiero. I think it was a Northstar but can't remeber for sure. I Do remember the guy has swapped numerous engines into Fiero's (including a 3400, which he says for the trouble it's not worth it) and he claims this will be the baddest converted Fiero yet. Again, can't remeber where I saw it, it is NOT V8 Archie, which is well known in the converted Fiero world.

Fiero's are not exactly muscle cars, but it's sure a nice little gem you found there Jack/

I love fiero's, however I don't think I would put a V8 in one. I think a V6 is good enough for me considering the fiero's really don't have much of a frame if I'm not correct???

A v-6 is a more balanced motor( weight wise) for the Fiero. And you can still get a hundred + hp than the car came with from the factory. But believe me, with a few .025 inch plates of steel in just the right places, you can put an old style hemi in that sucker and the body won't flex more than a 1/6th of an inch.
Check out V-8 Archie.com, This guy has done hundreds of Fiero's in every way you could think to do one. Fino's, Testarosta's,ect.
As for mine, I've decided to put in a 94 or 95 3800sc. 240 hp-270lb torgue. I believe it will scream and be all I'll need for a daily driver.

Wait a minute, I want one and you're my age! Anyway, I always liked the GT fastback compared to the standard model. Some gal I know here in Minnesota drives a silver one with a 383 stroker motor in it and NOS. That sucker hauls butt! I see her at several shows and watch people stand around in awe! Good luck with her! :D

Well, have come around ,finally, to getting the motor out. It's been a slow process with the cold weather. And I had to make a hoist stand (and I made it heavy) to lift the body up high enough.
Pulled it out tonight and got it strip down to the block. New set of head gaskets and it's back in, in a few days.
I'll keep everyone updated.

ideal swaps:
3800 SC
3400 (na, turbo, or sc). Use obd1 brain for a 3100 and it should drop in easier than the obd2 brain- less wiring.

I agree the odb1 would be easier to wire up. I believe I'll go with #2 so to have more control over fuel, air and the timing. That way I can play with the cpu's perimeters and super tune it.
It's nice to start up a cold engine without trying to keep it running.

we have had 2 fieros, an '84 se witht he 4 banger, and a 86 GTSE with the 2.8 and a 5 speed, we got both for under a grand each and ran great, until the clutch took a crap in the 86...i loved that car. Im trying to convince my dad to get one and do a motor rebuild and bore .040 over and port the heads, should be moderatly quick and not bad on the tranny. The Getrags can handle a lot of power actually. Im with buckeye, talk to archie, ive met the guy, and he knows fieros. if i can find a picture, the yellow se with suicide doors is amazing.
