Everytime I turn it up to just 5 (volume) the amp goes onto protect! How can I fix this? I have tried everything that I can think of and I have asked the few ppl that I know that know something about car audio. Hope you all can help me with this one. I guess if nothing comes up within a few weeks, I am just going to have to buy a new amp and I really don't want to do that. All help will greatly be appreciated! Thanks.

The amp stays on and it will be pushing the sub, but when I turn the volume up to 5 the amp goes onto protect. I replaced the end of the power wire that connected to the batter because it was corroded (green stuff on the connector and the battery terminal). It finally started rusting so I took it off and cleaned all the parts good and got all the corrosion off and then re connected. Ran fine all day then that night it started doing the "turn up to 5 it goes off thing". Don't have any idea what to do with it. Hope that will help ya out a little bit.

You may be over-driving the input stage. Is your input stage gain set correctly??? Remember gain is not a volume control, you must set it properly in order for the amp to work. If you don't know how to set the gain properly I suggest you visit a forum like Sounddomain.com for instructions.
If your gain is set properly, then make sure not only to check the power wire positive but also where you grounded it--a poor ground will cause the amp to "starve" for current while at the same time overheating and shutting down due to thermal protection.
Also be cautioned not to drive around with any of the amp's protection circuitry kicking in all the time like that. Eventually the protection will not be able to prevent failure of the amp and you can ruin the amp like that.

What brand of amp is it?
And yes as said above if your output gain on the HU is to high that can also jack things up....

I'm guessing its a sub amp, if so, are the sub(s) hooked up to it blown, or close to it? Use a DMM to fine the impedance of the sub. if its too high, or grounding out that could also be why your amp is going into protect.

The amp is the TS1920 Power Acoustik.

My advise would have to be the same as the others check the impedance of the subs. Do you have the voice coils wired in parrallel. If so you cant bridge that amp. That generally would put it into protect. Check your grounds. If you cant find the reason take the car to a local shop and ask. I could tell you the problem if I had the car here but thats not really goin to happen.

I have the same problem with mine, I can't turn the volume past 20 on my cd player or it protects. I replaced the head unit to SONY didn't fix the problem so......I have a kicker 150.2 btw.
We need to know what subs you have and how they are wired. Also how high you have the gain turned up.

I have 2 12" type-r's the 2005 editions. I only have one sub hooked up right now and just have the amp bridged to 1 channel. Today I found out the remote was under by the CD player. Hooked it back up and still the amp is on protect. Changed ground (again for about the 12th time) and nothing. Underneath of the protect light it says power/ground/remote, so I have only checked those wires. I have worked with this thing for about 3 weeks now and all it does is make me mad and i have to stop working on it. I am just about to sell the whole stereo and start with new subs, amps, and wiring kits.
