I was wondering if anyone has made a storage area/shelf/box for their trunk to keep say jumper cables/tools in?

I want to make one that goes from the back wheel strut towers acrossed the back seat, but not all the way down so i can still fit something with the seats folded down if i need too...

I tried to make something tonight.. I have a good idea what I need to do to fix it but am wondering if anyone has done this already and has any ideas/drawings/suggestions?

I did a search and about the only thing I could get was a gto's trunk and the center council... nothing to do with what I need! (unless I screwed up the search)

that sounds like a pretty unique idea, I know how you feel, I can hear the rattling of everything move in my trunk when I do something stupid in my car. I think a tiny shelve that would go between the strut towers back there would be awesome, provuided you dont want a sub box there, or a strut tower bar there. and if you did it well, i bet it would look quite nice, amybe some carpetting over it, maybe some painting, either way I envision it, it seems pretty cool

Or what about getting one of those net things?

had both a net and a bag. problem is they still slide and things don't stay in place. i want something where they are more stationary!

lets face it, if i can a chance to take a coner fast and have the chance to go into a fishtail, im taking it!!! causes havok on unsecured items!

Yes, I agree with the carpet! I have some extra from when I did my speaker box thing so hopefully it would be enough... I just got to figure out a design that will work... I think I have one, but securing it to the car is my problem as of right now.

I have this "trunk organiser" thing. It is actually really helpful and keeps all the stuff I keep in there (oil, couple tools, jumper cables, etc.) well out of the way of my sub box and amp.

When my car was new, I found this trunk organiser thing in my basement, new in the box--I guess my dad had bought it for another car, earlier, but never used it. So I used it :) What it is is just a long type of bag, made from nylon (like a backpack or whatever) and it has a few compartments.

Anyway been in my car since it was new and has served me very well. It had several ways of mounting including "snap" buttons that you could stick into the interior and velcro. What I did was use the velcro and then remove that trim peice in the rear of the trunk (you guys with the 99+ still have that I think). Then I placed the lip of the organiser under there (it also has velcro along it that sticks to the trunk liner/carpet); then replaced the trim piece. It holds it in place perfectly, against the back of the trunk even with a good bit of weight inside the organiser.

I guess the above might sound a bit confusing, but I don't have any pics of it. But anyway I noticed you said you had a bag, which might be the same thing as what I'm talking about. If you want you could try securing it as I did--mine has stayed put for 8 years! :)

someone has made an amp rack that is tucked away in the area you've described (I think). it is right under the rear speaker deck...

sorry don't remember who it was, but I saw it on here a while ago.

I am trying to stay away from those store bought ones because i doubt they make on for the grand am.... anywho.. ill do a search on amp racks and see how it is... i figured out one of my problems, but i still have one and its been bugging me all day!

all i got is a cardboard box, got all my crap in it.. its fairly small.. i dont have jumper cables, i have a booster pack.. the box is bunged to the left side of my trunk by my sub/amp.. and the booster pack is bunged to that as well.. so they are sucked to the left side, and never move.. i corner hard all the time... tires to prove it... my shit stays put...

this is very similar to what i want to do... only i want to mount it a few inches lower so i can fit stuff in there. and have a little door to hid it. my only problem now is mounting it to the car. (and building it!)

sounds like a bad ash idea, i've allways had a big pink plastic box in my rusty 85 buick, could fit tons of shiq in it and allways stay's put... now that i have a nice/ nice looking, 94 grand am, it'd be nice to have my tools and cables and shiq in something a bit classier... hope to see some pic's of the finished product.

a couple prolems for me to figure out and i have temp fix for right now.
the spare tire. now i have to take it thru the car to get to it.
the fold down seats option was covered up by the box. so i fished a peice of 12 gauge wire thru and tied it off so i still have a handle to pull incase i need the seats to fold down....

also, i know it looks like i cant use my trunk... well, im a student living at home with parent so i dont really need the trunk for business (as my work is physical labor) groceries arent to often in my car and i still have the backseat... plus i can still use the back of the trunk for the stuff ireally dont need. incase your wondering, usually im the first person my friends call when they need a tool or something for their car or what ever... so i figured it would be nice to have some way of holding my tools where i can get to them easily without leaning all the way into the trunk

to hold it up, i ripped out the rear deck to expose the speakers/metal part of the car and exposed the top side of the holes you can see from the trunk while laying in the car/trunk. i used some strong metal, drilled a hole in the metal, and layed the top peice of the shelf where it would sit and used a marker to make my marks. there are 4 bolts holding it up.

so there ya have it! (yes the carpet sucks... i ran out of full peices to use as i carpted the inside of the shelf area to help keep things from sliding... also instead of a door i figured would be useless i used some bolts and nuts to act as a stopper.

hope this might help others :)

The bottom looks like it wasn't cut straight and the edges dont look like they line up.

Brandon

the bottom and top werent cut straight. i tried to match the line of the trunk (the curve of the window area).

the top right hand side there are about 4 strips of carpet running around trying to cover up the edge (like i said, carpet job sucks and will be redone sooner or later) actually the only peice that doesnt line up is the back peice that should hardly be seen.

i actually want to make a couple extensions to the sides to hide my jumper cables soon or later... so thats why i am going to hold off on the carpet untill i figure out how i am going to do that.

oh yea, the bottom left hand corner doesnt have any carpet either and all you can kind of see is the black pain job i did on the bottom peice.
