I need two new amps! Any brand that you would highly recommend, prefer to be a mono block that is putting out about a RMS of 500 at atleast 2 ohms. A price does kinda matter, but I don't want anything cheap. Around 200 to 300 per amp.

It's going to be hard to get 2 amps that put out about 500 RMS for only 2-300 each... Why not just get one big, mono blocked amp putting out 1000? Look at JL or Crossfire.

Forget Crossfire there amps blow they rate there wattage too high and there distortion rating is terrible. I got a hifonics brutus 1605d this is a super class d amp that has a 2 ohm rms of 1600w and a 3400 peak. I work at a car audio shop so I only paid $269 for mine. I wish I could get everyone on this sight to buy from me we sell equip with a 20% markup at most when everywhere else sells with 80-150% markups. Jl just took Fosgates and Mtxs lead techs and put them to work on there new line so 06 jl products should blow almost everyone away. What I would recomend is go to a shop find the amps you like and spend some time checking them out online first. Personaly Id recomend Hifonics there amps are clean and powerful.

What about the Kicker 850 by 2 channel amp? It would be puttin out 425 X 2 RMS at 2 ohms which would be under powering my subs by only 75 watts. It will set be back about $375.

I have two 12" Alpine SWR-122D subs. There rated at 500 RMS a piece.

Cool cool at least you got a decent set of subs. They only issue that I have with the kicker amp is that I never underpower a sub. I always overpower and lower the gains. Itll clean up the sound alot. Personally if the loudest system in the world sounded like sht I wouldnt give it a second look

xfire aren't that bad, they're just designed mainly for spl, which means those ppl normally dno't care for the thd or sq of the amp because the box will be ported to hell and back
i used one on a ported box and now its used for a sealed application and it sounds just fine, it will be replaced with a audison lrx1.400 soon though, my subs will be changed to boston acoustics g5's as well

those may be rated at 300w depending on which year they were made in, the newer type r's are 500w, but the older ones w/o the cool surround were 300w rms/1000w max
try not to give them the 500w apiece, type r's are very prone to overheating, i fried many of them simply because they don't ventilate properly, i haven't figured out why, but they just don't, i had to run mine inverted so they wouldn't overheat, and they were always very hot when i played them, i switched to other subs with the same amps and the problem wasn't there, and the gains were set to the same as the type r's

What about the MRD-M1005 Alpine amp? And just wire it parallel

that amp is made to match those speakers, so i'd get two 2 ohm type r's and wire them to pull a 2 ohm load from the amp, but as said before, keep the gains down, and if you can feel the subs are abnormally hot, or smell the burning (smells like a heater being turned on the first time during the winter) then you may wanna invert them, you won't lose any sound, you may gain some due to the added box volume, plus i think type r's look really good inverted, just switch the + and - on the subs, or reverse the signal through your HU if it has that feature

I have the 2 12" 2-ohms subs already. My old amp just went off and I can't get it back on so im just going to get a new one that is better.

k, then any 2 ohm stable mono amp will do, shoot for 800-1000w

Ok well my previos statement about crossfire may have been premature. I made they remark about all the crossfire amps that I have personally heard. Im not familiar with there line up. The ones that I have heard might have been their lower line. I will look into crossfire abit and see what I can learn.

I retract my previous statement about crossfire. Last year they set an alltime world record for spl at 177db. MY GOD. Id prefer to be backhanded by everyone for my stupididty. In my defence like I had said the crossfire amps that I had heard before licked. I guess I shouldnt make such quick desicions.

i think the last 3 years have been dominated by crossfire in spl
most ppl team their amps up with RE subs www.reaudio.com
they're a new brand that ppl are using for spl and sq comp. i have heard all of their subs in action and nobody comes close to them, i would've gone with re subs over the new bostons, but i'm trying to get a spot in bostons catalog, i didn't know that they didn't require you to use boston amps to be featured
with my vr1000d i was pushing 148db's in my ported box, the same setup sealed has been dropped to 140db :(, but it still sounds very good to be sealed at 1^3ft per sub, i also use 1'' mdf as well, it makes the box way heavier, but the sound is superb

Well hifonics set a new record last year at 176.3. I personally use hifonics amps..... I need to be slapped again. They reason I make the mistake with calling crossfire a bad amp was because the 2 "crossfire" amps that I heard, I check with the guys that had them. They are Interfires, theyre the Crossfire knock off. Now I feel even more stupid (thx Chain)! I had bostons in my car at one point they were the cleanest subs that I have ever had.
