I just picked up a 2000 Grand Am and I am looking to do something that is original. I want to leave the exterior stock and do something crazy to the interior.
I am not concerned with audio, since I sell and install that. I want to hear or see some really good ideas for the interior.

I've done a few things to my interior, although nothing extreme. You can check my cardomain if you'd like.
Some cool things I've seen people do or heard of them doing:
velvet headliner and other accents
fiberglassed dash
dyed dash
painted trim pieces
LED's/neons (if you're into that)
remove rear seat for speakers/amp rack :D
well, that's all I can think of for now...

Install a full rollcage with racing seats and 5 point harnesses. There arent a heck of a lot of GA's with rollcages.
Definately do the a-piller guage mod, those are just cool as shit.
Diamond plate the floor or something, that'd be radical and somewhat unique.
Dunno, i'm out of crazy ideas.

dying the entire interior black is the best thing anyone could ever do. Pat (praasch) did it, and it looks amazing, but i guess that isnt unique since he has already done it....
The only other idea I have is to gut the back (if its a coupe) because who really needs a backseat, I know I dont - and the added trunk space would be awesome :D

You want ideals for crazy interior check out some mini trunkin magazines.
How's this for starters.
First off you need four bucket seats that are all the same. Leather if you want.
New center console molded from fiberglass that rushs from the dash right back to between the rear bucket seats and up to the top of the rear deck. Mold the front of the console with cup holders simular to the original, same goes for the dash leading to the console. No center storage, leave it low and sleek looking. This will help the eye focus on the two 10" subs mounted between the rear seats firing forward . Maybe mold a cupholder or two between the rear seats.
In the dash have a TV screen molded in with a CD/DVD player below it where the heater controls would be. Relocate the heater controls in the center console behind the shifter sideways so you would have three knobs in a row. Aluminum knobs would be a nice accent to contrast a nicely painted console. Same goes for a aluminum shifter handle and use leather to match the seats for a shifter boot.
Fiberglass and paint your door arm pulls to match the console and add leather where the fabric is to match your seats. Fiberglass the rear armrest the same. If you have adjustable headrests cut a piece of small diameter PCV pipe in 1 inch sections. Paint to match console and use one each around the headrest supports.
Fiberglass the rear speaker deck with some custom angle speaker pods with some wild aluminim speaker grills. Maybe ass LEDs on the backside of the grill to illuminate the speaker at night.
While your at it LEDs in the door handle cups, cupholders, under teh dash and other hidden places might give a nice accent at night.
If you don't have a sunroof now is the time for a custom headliner/overhead console. Using a vanity console from a luxury SUV fiberglass it smooth and paint it to match. Now you have little compartments for your eyewear and garage door open, etc and have handy map lights too boot. A custom headliner with some 3D design or shape made by cutting foam and covering it with cloth headliner that can be purcahsed at any fabric store. Other interesting things you might us eis shag carpet, or the same leather you use on the rest of the interior.
Top off the accents with aluminum pedals, and rear view mirror.
I think that about gives you a good idea of a custom interior, and I doubt you've seen that in a GA.

Dave C hey I love the meshing you did behing the vents. The turn signal covers you did are sick I want that now. (hate to cover some one elses idea but hey) Actually I was planning on tintin the shape of the orange signal but yours is a much better looking idea. did you do the headlight overlays yourself?

I definately like all of the suggestions that TA^Guy had aw well.
It takes a while to do that mesh well, most of this time was filing down the area where the mesh will fit. Check out pg. 2 of my cardomain for a how-to.
I did the headlight overlays myself. It was a pain. Each headlight took me ~1hr of stretching, not to mention screwing up once (that's one more hour) plus making the template. If you're going to do custom headlight overlays, I'd appreciate it if you made a variation of mine instead of an exact duplicate style (only 2 stripes, or a pontiac symbol? etc). If you're going to take the time to do this you may as well have something completely original.

hey matt, thanks for the props on the interior...always appreciated..,
i would agree with most everyone here....i like my black interior with red accenting...hated the charcoal gray stock color...did the lcd monitor molded in the radio spot and the headunit relocated under the HVAC controls....
i like TA's idea with fiberglassing the rear deck and making new speaker mounts....might have to be a summer project...
but yeah, the interior can be done to many different styles...my next thought is the a pillar pod on mine....
but good luck with yours.....

Better than copying mine :D
But I have seen a few different people with the Pontiac symbol, so you've already been copied... hehe

Atleast the first guy had the curtousy to ask permission first :)
I really liked those.... How long has it been since Pontiac had the arrowhead as a side marker or turn signal? I believe it was the first gen Firebird. Kinda brought a muscle car feel to the GA.
