so i got some custom gauges/dial from speedhut and they had a little instruction page on how to install them, but it wasnt all that great. i was wondering if anybody has installed them before. if so, please explain how to get in there and how to wire them up, and how to place the switch/knob thingy thanks much - Kev

sorry if this thread is in the wrong place

How bad was the instruction page, like utterly useless, or just crappy? I find that (and this is probably a classic repeat) replacing headlight's in grand am's is not something the car manual wil help you with, but oh well. I really have no answer to your question, but just give it time, pretty soon someone on here will answer :)

Instructions written as per Jordus:
(for PCP gauges but speedhut will be the same)

Step 1. Remove the dash cowl, 2 phillips head screws are in the top just above the guages, 2 more in the cubby under the AC controls

Step 2 Now get your size t-15 torx bit, remove the 4 torx bits holding in the cluster (2 on top, 2 on bottom, and towards the left and right a bit, youll see them)

step 3 once the cluster is loose, remove the two wirign harnesses and your cluster is free.

Step 4- flip the cluster backwards and there should be 5-6 more t-15 torx screws, undo them and the plastic surround comes off the front of the cluster, exposing the guage faces.

step 5- Get your PCP guages, point ALL needles straight up on the cluster, also remove the needle bump-stop (they pull straight out). Once this is done, start with the Temp needle and work your way right, threading each individual needle into its respective hole, this can take some tinkering but it IS possible to do without removing any needles. replace bump stops

step-6 Once those are on, flip the cluster back over, replace all the torx screws, HOWEVER, youll need to run the wire from the overlays inbetween these two peices, so leave the torx screw closest to that wire a little loose (dont worry, the others hold the cluster together very firm, you must leave this one loose so it doesnt crimp the connection, a common problem).

step7- replace the cluster into the dash, screw in torx screws. Now, take the wire from the overlays and plug it into one of the 3 connections on the PCP harness (all connection spots are the same), now splice your ground (black) on the PCP harness to the ground (black) wire on the dimmer switch. Then splice your power wire on the PCP harness (red/black stripe) to the YELLOW wire on the dimmer. Check to see if they work. If they do, move on, if not check for blown fuses, crimps, etc.

step 8- neatly stuff the harness box and all extra wiring behind your dimmer area/steering column in a spot they wont interfer with other wiring etc. Run the PCP dimmer/bluegreen switch around the steering column and down to the removable plate just under the steering wheel, move all the wires up inside and replace the plate, then screw your dimmer/greenblue switch into that plate.

step 9- replace dash cowl.
