I just bought me a BLACK 2001 GAGT Coupe. I don't have a pic yet, but it looks similar to any stock 2001 Black GAGT. I've been looking at grafxwerks.com and customgrandam.com for some decal color accents (interior and exterior) to really give my car an impressive look. I can't decide on what color I want to go with but I want it to be the same throughout. What color do you think looks the best on a black grand am and also post any reason for your choice. I've listed my top 5 choices. I'm open to any suggestions. This is an open canvas for me. Thanks!
I'll let you know (and posts pics) of what I end up with.
This is what I want to get: (granted it may be TOO much added color)
(in no particular order)
Exterior
1. "Grand Am" Badge Overlays
2. "GT" Badge Overlays
3. "Ram Air" Badge Overlays
4. Bordered Front Arrowhead Overlay
5. Center Cap Arrowhead Overlay
6. Wheel Spoke Groove Inlays
7. "Pontiac" Front and Rear Inlays
8. "Ram Air by Pontiac" Overlays
9. GT Bumper Indentation Inlays
10. Bordered "Pontiac" Handle Overlays
11. "Grand Am GT" Door Sill Decals
12. "Grand Am GT" or "Pontiac" Third Break Light Overlay
13. "Pontiac" Wiper Housing Decal
14. Arrowhead Moonroof Decal
15. "GT" or "Grand Am" Rearview Mirror Decals
16. "Grand Am" Frosted Headlight Decals
Interior
1. Steering Wheel Arrowhead Inlay and Ring Overlay
2. "GT" Dashboard Decal
3. Steering Wheel Post Overlays
4. "GT" Headrest Inserts
Wow that will cost a lot. I'm going to have to do bit by bit and it's probably better that way.
I know I have lots of "GT" stuff. I like that logo and realize I may have too much of it listed. Anway what do you think?

I always thought red, purple and silver looked good on a black GA :)

Y2KGAGT,
I think those do look good too. purple and black and silver we got some of that in this forum skin. I see a lot of red on black and I like it too. I just can't decide. Any color would go well except some of the darker colors.

I would vote for silver. I would also vote for less:
shave Grand Am and GT badges and use for interior GT (dash + headrest)
make the molding inlay silver (the stripe around the car that is normally black on every GT)
silver or black arrowheads
reflective black rim inlays
frosted headlight decals
I would also suggest trying to do some of this yourself. My steering wheel arrowhead and ring inlays cost me next to nothing. -->Free silver vinyl from a sign-making shop (which I also used for my headlight overlays) and some reflective red vinyl tape from Advanced Auto or Meijer's.
IMO, less is more
a lot of people will buy overlays just to end up shaving the badges a couple of months later.

I like dark or Navy blue. I would never think of white, yellow or green - too much contrast.

Wow, I got some good feedback since I last checked. Thanks guys.
You guys are right, I probably won't add ALL of those decals, just some of them. I'll start with the most important ones and go from there. customgrandam.com offers free shipping which is great because I can just order 1 thing at a time if I want to.
Once I decide on a color scheme, I think I'm going to start with the "Pontiac" inlays for the front and rear bumpers. That seems like a classic mod that looks good. Then I'll go from there.
I noticed on here that a lot of people prefer de-badging. I love the Grand Am GT's on the sides and rear. I actually would like for them to stand out more, that's why I'm planning on adding overlays to them. I also like the black molding. I don't think I'm going to accentuate that with color.
I'm now liking the thought of silver on black. If I could edit my poll I'd replace green with silver. I have the crome rims. Silver and black is a good combo. Too much silver though and I'd look like a huge Oakland Raiders fan (which I'm not).
I never really gave much thought of purple. Right now my rear windshield has purple tint (from previous owner). It looks ok, but I'm probably going to take it off and replace with black tint because it's starting to bubble.
My favorite colors combo is garnet, white and black (huge SC Gamecocks fan). I'd like for my car to be garnet (burgundy) and black but garnet just doesn't show up on black unless it has a white border or background. Although I like this combo I don't think I'll do it on my car.
It's good to see everyone has his/her own opinions. Keep them coming!

here's an opinion, get rid of the purple bubbly tint ASAP!!!! :D
that's makes a car looks so ghetto, no offense but I always get the image of a old rusted out Escort with ghetto tint and a system that costs more than the car
Here's another idea...you could debadge, and then put the overlays right on the car instead of on the badge. That way you have the smooth look of shaved, but you still have the emblem on the side that you like :)

How much of a pain is it to de-badge? I don't want any residual signs of having been de-badged. Is this a DIY project because I definately don't want to pay someone to do it.

it's pretty easy. Just heat it with a hair dryer, not too much or it will hurt the paint, just a little and pull them off. You can also use fishing line to "saw" through the adhesive. Then use Goo Gone to remove the adhesive and then wash and wax. Waxing is a must, because the Goo gone is hard on the paint. I don't have any residue from mine.

Im trying to go with a mild red and a darker blue color scheme for my black GAGT. Im currently working on getting the vents and interior trim painted the various colors of red and blue. I was gona color the vents blue, then the handles and speaker covers red. Then the dash trim probly red as well. That is about all i want to color inside or it will be too much color and not enough black. Outside i dunno what im gona do yet.

I tried pulling off the ugly dealer badge yesterday. It left all the sticky tape on my car. I bought some Goo Gone and turtle wax today and will try to get it off first before thinking about taking off my gagt badges.
I hate the dealer stuff they put on cars. That advertising should be illegal! All cars I've ever gotten have the dealer's info on it. This is the first car where I've decided to take it off. I just hope I can get it off without damaging the paint.

I do like what you've done with your Black GT Shawn. The red you've added does look good. Which red is that (light red, dark red, burgundy, etc)?
Also this forum rocks! :woot: Thanks.

I opted to use reflective silver accents on my black GAGT. I have some pics on my cardomain site, granted they are not the best of pics, but should give you a general idea. I am pretty happy with how that turned out. I also have the Grand AM GT overlay for the 3rd brake light, but you can't really tell that from the pics.

Remember, let the goo gone set for a little while, and don't be afraid to use as much as needed to get it off.
That adhesive sucks, but a little elbow grease, goo gone, and a lot of beer will take care of it with little problem :D

I specifically told them to not put one on my car because it would come right off :D
I wouldn't let the Goo-Gone set too long because I don't think it would be good for the paint. Also, I advise washing the area where you used Goo-Gone before you wax over it.
I do agree with debadging and then adding the sticker, its much easier to wax over and gives a smoother look. Speaking of which, I need to do that myself!!

I kinda meant follow the instructions. ;)
It says to let it sit like 10 minutes or something.

I'm going to be drinking like a mad man this weekend, might as well kick it off tonight!

OK, first things first!!!...get rid of the wind deflector!!! It totally messes up the sleekness of the car....Just my opinion :D

I just might. I'm thinking about putting a decal on the sunroof. The wind deflector would get in the way of being able to see the decal from the front. I hope it's not too 'sticky' to get off.

what's too stickey?...the deflector? There shouldn't be any adhesive in that, it's just two brackets holding it on....should be anyways :)

I assumed it was glued on. I haven't taken that close of a look at removing it yet to know how it is attached. If it can be removed, and better yet put back on, without much trouble, I will definitely go ahead and take it off (if I can easily put it back on if need be).

I might go with some red and white (or silver). The more I think about it I could have 3 colors instead of just 2.

I like the look of a black grand am with reflected ice blue accents at night. Does look pretty cool. Add in xenon blue headlights. That would look awesome.
Still haven't decided on a scheme yet. Like someone said earlier, just about any color would look good on black.

That's ok, take your time and make sure you do it right the first time. It'd be a waste of money to change colors after a couple of weeks.

Haha... My black GAGT is going to have silver on black... and going to be slightly Raiders themed lol (I'm letting him put a vinyl decal on the back window) - only because I love silver and black, and my boyfriend is a huge Raiders fan, and helps me make the payments on it. But beside that I think black/silver looks great - purple is a good choice, too (I think) :)

Well Jamie, you've given me a good idea. I think I'm going to go with a combination color scheme of silver and ice blue (grafxwerks' olympic blue) to add a Carolina Panthers theme to my car. I think the right combination of silver and light blue on my car will look awesome! Throw in some of those blue lights, at night my car will be sweeeet!
Thanks everyone who voted and commented. It has helped lead me in a good direction for my color scheme.
