ok i went to the place the installed my viper 5000 alarm and asked how much they would charge me to install the remote start feature. they came back and said 260, plus a gm passlock 2 box thing so it would work properly. after he looked at my receipt for the alarm, he said he could take 60 bucks off the total.
200/260 for remote start?! does this sound right or are they trying to get some extra $$ ?
they were going to charge 39.99 for the passlock thingy.
well considering here my viper 719xv alarm/starter is roughly 600 canadian plus installation, that does sound about right to me. But thats just my 2cents. Keep in mind with mine i actually found a new one on ebay for 235 us, with conversion and shipping it cost me 300 bucks and a "few" hours of my time to install it

A little confused Brandon. So the Viper 5000 has both alarm and RS features but they didn't install the RS the first time? Or are you adding a DEI Valet (or other) add-on remote start module?
The PL-II bypass you will need. For the install itself, $200 US seems a little high considering the alarm is already installed (?) and they just have to hook up the wires for the RS. Again though I'm confused is that $200 just for labour and the PL-II bypass or is it also for other parts?

yes, i have the alarm installed already. it has the remote start feature, but at the time i didnt want it hooked up because i could hardly afford the alarm. so it would be part of the viper alarm and not another brand.... to me 200 seemed a little high. the pl 2 thing didnt really suprise me that much as ive heard about those types of things many times before.
i just dont think 200 is worth 5 minutes of convience. when for the most part the only place i will/could use it is at home, and maybe 100 feet away in a parkinglot.

Yeah then $200 US say is too high for just the PL-II bypass and the RS install completion.
I'd say buy a PL-II bypass and do it yourself; or try to find another shop that deals with Directed stuff.
Reasonably, I'd say $150 at the very most with the bypass, but depends on how many relays or diodes (if any) have to be added. Since the alarm is already installed I can't think of anything other than the ignition and starter wires and the bypass that's left though :??? Something closer to $100 would be fair I'd think...
$200 really is a ripoff IMO. Something tells me I don't want to know how much the original installation cost...

the alarm originally costed 349.99 installed with just the shock censor... thats all i really think i need. i cant imagine as sensitive as i have it set they could get into my trunk without it going off or sending a warning beep or something.
yea, i was expecting 100 or so dollars for the r/s... when he told me 260 before he would cut 60 bucks off i about pissed myself. thats insane i thought/think... you can go buy a cheap remote start for like 60 bucks (although im not sure id trust it)

$350 eh? I'm not sure about the Viper 5000 but I'm guessing that is probably the model just one below the paging models?
In that case I'd say $350 was probably fair, if they installed the entire thing.
It's ashame when you get shops charging this much, especially with return customers. I mean it was a nice "gesture" that the guy "knocked off" $60 once he saw you were there before, but still, $200? It is a little silly. Personally I wouldn't go back there and I wouldn't recommend them because of this incident, but that of course is just my opinion.
I don't know what to say--honestly I can't say the RS part requires another $200 to install. How much more did they want in the beginning, if they installed it all?
If you aren't comfortable doing it yourself maybe you could find a GAOC member close to you that would do it for you? If you lived close to me I'd probably do it for couple of beers ;)

it has the remote paging. i think its the first one in the line to have it... its not the best alarm out there, but it was a brand name i was familiar with and liked. sadly at the time i think they were the cheapest. (they also were the people that did my tint and my diamond coating) so its not like i am a new person there, but yea. im shopping around today to see what i can get it done for.

Wow I would say 200 seems pretty high considering I paid just under 400 to buy and have my viper 791xv installed. Installation was 188. You should probably look around.

i went somewhere else and they told me 272.
man! this isnt looking cheap.
Yeah I take back my original comments and agree that is a little high since the majority of the wiring is already done its just a matter of adding a module...hrm

I was going to tell you to try them but obviously they are a little overpriced. Have you tried ovations. Just down the road from Wax works in castleton.

Yeah but their installers are some of the best. The other thing to try is bestbuy or circuit city. But it cant be that hard to do yourself.

It all depends on the passlock.... I had to have 3 relays for my 97 to work... It can be a real pain in the butt... Plus if they install it and anything goes wrong you get it fixed for free... Anyway at Boomers Audio thats how it works... Plus when I buy a differant car they take it all out for free.

I know some places around here will put back your factory deck for free but that is about it.
