I'm looking to purchase an audio system for my 2000 grand am se, but have no idea what to look for. I can't afford to spend a lot of money on this system. What do you guys think the best system would be to for the money? It needs to be able to play mp3s and I would like a 12" sub. Also, would 2 10" subs be a lot more espensive? Right now my grand am stereo is stock.
Thanks

Ok heres my ideas the jvc 310 is a reasonably inexepensive mp3 player. You can find off brands that play mp3 but like a say Quality goes along way. If any shops around you have Audiobahn subs look into a 1251se or the 1251t its one of there lower models for subs but you should be able to pick one up for round 50-75 bucks. I say lower model but they are still quality woofers. 2 10s vs one 12 they wont be too much more expensive. You will need a gm-rc01 harness kit to make the stereo compatable to the comp in the car. Depening on where you get them they can run around $100 bucks just for the harness. Amps hell I dont know what you have around? You but dont skimp on the amp is my sujestion.(wow i cant spell) Keep this string goin with some questions and I be glad answer to the best of my knowledge.

Thanks for your input so far. Is there a huge difference in sounds w/ 2 10" subs rather than 1 12" sub? Also, what exactly do you mean when you say "You will need a gm-rc01 harness kit to make the stereo compatable to the comp in the car." Sorry... i'm really dumb when it comes to cars and this sort of stuff :D A few shops I have around my place are www.FutureShop.ca, http://www.2001audiovideo.com/... Maybe if you can pick me a good package there, I can look around other stores for better prices or what not. It would help me out immensly.

Well if you have a 99-up model grand am your stock hu is spliced into your door chimes and all the system alert noises. The GM-rc01 is a class 2 interface that fools the computer in the car into thinking the stock deck is still there. Basically the HU wont work without one. 2 10s of the same brand 12 will be noticably louder then 1 12. If you get a higher powered 12 then it will make up for that. I use just one 12 in a vented vega style box. But that one 12 rms's at 1200w with a peak of 2400w. I use a 1600w rms monoblock for the 12 and it sounds better then 2 12s 3 10's and alot of the time 2 15s. Thats if those subs arent close to the same wattage as mine. Then obviosly they wup my ass. But that goes to say that they also spent 3 times as much on there equipment as me.

Yeah I checked out those web pages and they really didnt list alot of there products. They do have the jvc 310 at the 2001audiovideo place at about 169$ thats a decent price I sell mine for 139$ but I basicaly sell wholesale. They didnt have a listing for which subs they carry but it looks like they do carry audiobahn. They page shows a abb101q its a ten loaded in a sealed box. Those are goin to be around 75$ its a good sub for the price. But thats one ten. Check to see if they have a 12" "bazooka" its the tube box. I think the model is ab1201t or somthing like that It will give you much more sound for a single lower powered sub. aprox $85 They didnt have much of a sellection on amps though. Check amps and gimme a list of your ideas. Check the THD if you dont know thats the distortion rating on them. Try to get the lowest THD in your price range. Your probably looking at around $400 for electronics including amp sub and harness and an 8gauge amp kit (kit size only if you dont want to upgrade to larger amp). Cheap stuff: mounting harness 15$, antanea adapter 10$, odds and ends, most of this stuff they can charge your for with the install. Hopefully that keeps you around $600 after install. But then again you can always go cheaper if that is out of your price range.

I'll have a JVC KD-LH2000 for sale after Christmas. Will most likely be selling for $100 plus shipping.
