I dont need to know what the Epicenter does. What I want to know is if you have or have had one before. If you do know about it ill need to know what your system was. HU/voltage Amps Subs how its wired, any preamp/eqs if you have a Cap/size or wheelchair battery.
My stuff
Kenwood 7028 hu 4 volt output
Hifonics 1605d 1600 w rms
12" Audiobahn 1206 in vented vega box 1100w rms 2ohms
1.5 farad Cap
What I want to know is will I benefit in anyway by getting an Epicenter?
What Im goin for is a simple yet powerful system. Ive had loud! Im goin for quality sound and volume from a single 12".
I dont want to spend $200 on the epicenter to test it, know what I mean.

I Used to have one. They are GREAT for getting some bass out of older songs, especially 70's & 80's rock songs. I had thought about getting another one myself.:)

its a very cool device. but depending on what kind of music u listen to, it might work better or not. if u listen to rock, pop, techno, stuff like that without much drawn out bass and you like that drawn out deep bass, the epicenter will give it to you.

OK, this thread got my intrest into finding out what this thing is...I actually thought you were talking about a sub at first lol. So after reading up on it...I don't get it
What does it do exactly? It sounds like it amplifies all the crap that you usually want to get rid of with subsonic filters! So someone please explain the difference in the sound, because I'm not sold on it yet :)
Sorry, if you take this as high jacking, that's not my intention :)

Ya...that's the one I read...like I said, bass harmonics is the crap you try to filter out isn't it???

Oh you read that already?
Hmm here is the information on page 7 of the owner's manual:
From the Epicenter's Owner's Manual
Bass Maximization Technology
You may ask yourself, “Why would I need to restore bass?” The truth is
that during the recording process, low frequency information can be “mixed”
down or filtered out. It’s not that recording engineers are out to get you; in fact
they are looking out for your best interests and are concerned that many speaker
systems cannot handle “truly” low bass information.
The patented circuit inside The Epicenter is designed to reproduce the low
frequency information by looking at the upper frequency ranges and detecting
musical harmonics. These harmonics then allow The Epicenter to drop down a
few octaves and reproduce the “missing” bass notes.
The bottom line is that The Epicenter technology gives you deep, body
shuddering, heart stopping bass. Can you handle it??
So it's a bass restorer that seems like it would be useful in some situations but not something necessary, IMO. It says it is useful for all types of music, but I'm kind of thinking it is actually more useful with certain types of music/mixing as well as certain media (i.e. cassettes, radio).

Gotcha! Thanks Roland. It's still doesn't seem worth the $200 to produce something that most people won't even hear and is only good for certain types of music...IMO :)

Well looks like I dont need one anyway. I just added a clarion 7 band eq to my setup and boosted my signal voltage to 7v. What I was wondering with the Epicenter is will it clear up the bass lines of moderatey poor rip mp3s. You know that ones that you cant seem to find a high quality download for.

^ Yeah it probably would do that, considering the description. The question of how well it does it and if it is worth $200 are just as important.
If you can find an AudioControl dealer near you, you should see if you can get a demonstration of the unit with the MP3s you are speaking about and see how well it works and what you can do with it. Perhaps you could even get to demo it in your car. Otherwise I'd say the same thing as you did--it isn't really a good idea to spend $200 to find out.
