I have a 2001 Grand Am and I have lost reception of AM stations.
I believe there is a problem with the cable that runs from radio to the antenna. Was wondering what to do and how to replace cable. I believe the cable is bad for if I plug something into the back of the radio where the cable plugs in, i get the reception back. I have tested the antenna and it works fine.

So was wondering if some one can tell me how to remove the cable or supply a schematic showing me how the cable runs from the radio to the antenna?

One last question, is there a connector some place that should be checked first?

appreciate any help or suggestions

Thanks
Peter

are you only loosing AM and not FM? if so then it's probably not the antenna. Sounds more likea problem in the headunit itself.

But if your content on running a new antenna cable, your best off getting a 144" antenna extension (Circuit City & best Buy should have them) and route that from your antenna in the back fender up to the head unit. your not going to be able to remove the factory cable with out waaaayy too much trouble.

Steve,

I do get a weak FM signal, but FM stations usually come in stronger than AM due to the frequency transmission.

I am told that the grand am may have a connector that runs somewhere between the radio and the antenna and that it usually is the source of the problem. So I was wondering if anybody knew if there is a connector and where I would find it.

Thanks for your suggestion.
