I am having this issue, guys.

-My 2001 3.4L GA is doing this thing in the morning, it will idle fine but in the first few gears, it's sputtering and jerking, when I jump on the gas, it's almost like my car doesn't realize I'm doing it. Tranny won't kick in and rpms won't go up.

-It will do that until it gets warmed up, after about 5-7 minutes, then I get power on level road, but that's til I start uphill, though. I get no REAL power ever (whether she's cold or warmed up)! I get no power uphill, no matter the speed or gear, so I pretty much have to give her a running start to get over one with any speed because I can expect speed to decrease about 5 mph uphill.

-Her rpm won't go beyond about 3500 (if it stays there too long or gets close to 4000, it gives an error code for an EGR valve, check range). My fuel filter, battery, & EGR valve (which I had a code for), have been replaced, but to no avail. I've cleaned my MAF (which didn't really need it) with the electric cleaner, and now I'm at my wit's end on this.

-Just wondering if you guys could let me know what to check out next. Maybe juel injection or something?

I would check the Throttle Position Sensor next.

You might have clogged injectors or bad fuel as well, but I'd definitely have the codes checked and perhaps the misfire count as well as other sensors' real-time information viewed to try to narrow down the problem.

Check fuel pump pressure.

I had this same problem, and so did my father, who drives a 2002 Impala which has the same 3400 V6 in it. In both cases the problem ended up being a clogged Cat. Luckily enough they were both covered by the warranties, which I think is 80,000mi for the Cat. itself and both of ours went out at approx. 35k mi. Good luck.

Took a closer gander and found out that my exhaust was clogged up all to be damned. Cat converter had to be replaced. Runs like a true chamion again.

One more question. When the cat goes, I was told, there is usually something else behind it happening. Is there some truth to that, and if so, where would one look first?

Thanks again for your posts, guys. I'm glad I found this site.

The clogged cat could be cause by the Engine not running properly....too rich a Mixture, back firing etc. Also depends on the milegae on the car.

I'd start with a Tune up.
Oil Change and Filter
Spark Plugs and wires
TB cleaning
Air Filter
PCV Valve
Fuel Filter
O2 Sensor.

*Ignore any of these if you've doe any of this lately. I'm not sure what you need done, cause I don't know the history, or how many KM/Miles are on it.

After it's all done, run some high octane for a few tanks to clean it all up and you should be fine.
