So talking to my hubby last night, he is trying to disuade me from putting chrome rims on my car. His argument is that it makes the car a theft target. Have any of you found this to be an issue? I know the apts we live in cars are hit all the time for the rims. One guy had his stolen form his Ford Harley Davidson truck 3 times! :O  Good thing we are moving to a good nieghboorhood next month. lol

Still what do ya'll think?

Is is worth the investment?

What return do I get other than a nicer look?

Does this increase the value of my car??

Thanks peeps! :)

Investing in wheel locks and a car alarm are 2 ways to help deter a thief. Can't guarentee they won't be stolen, but most thieves will look for an easier target.

Well, the 3 vehicles that got hit in our nieghboor hood all had alarms (an escalade, harley truck and some other fancy SUV)

The guy with the truck had the locking lugnuts. Hubby says those are easy to bust if you know how.

The guy that had his rims stolen, sorry 2 times, the 3rd time he heard something and caught them in the act. Ran outta the house with a gun, saw 5 hispanic males coming out from under his truck, shot one, they all got away.

Funny thing is, we have security cameras and they never catch anything.

Thanks for your input! So adding rims also means spending even more cash. :roll2:

But does it make my car worth more?

Any recommends on alarms? Er, wrong section... lol :D

id save the money and put it into performance parts personally. look at the people that have a set of chromed rimms that arent factory.... wouldnt you rather show them the ass end of your car when they think the rims add 50hp?!

sorry, thats my thinking, but finding a set of rims at the right size that looks good with the car seems to be hard.

Depends... if you feel you enjoy the look enough to justify the cost, then yes.

Better handling since you can decrease sidewall size with larger rims. Lighter wheels will have a slight positive effect on acceleration, braking, and fuel economy. Keep in mind many chrome style wheels are much heavier... same effect but negatively impacting acceleration, braking, fuel economy.

No, anything other than stock decreases car value when selling or trading... although you can always save the stockers and put those back on.

Hell yeah, nice to see atlease one of those scumbags got what they deserve. Hope he shot to kill. I bet if he did they could attend the funeral and find his other two set's on wheels on some lowrider 1985 toyota camery.

This depends on who is purchasing it or if your trading it in or not.

if its real bad in your area I wouldn't suggest getting them unless you can get insurance on them somehow. I love rims but sometimes the risk of them being stolen is just not worth the look.

fasheezy, pnce again, my reply to speedkittens post was deleted so i will write it again

go with some 19"s or 20"s, make your ga stand out above and beyond they rest, they will definetly disagree with me, but if you want people to trip on it get some nice chrome you'll be breakin knecks everywhere you go,

im glad you like to call my rims hubcaps, but i never once said i have 23" tires, its 23" chrome and no lie
