Hey guys. how goes it? I'm workin' on a friend's grand am (99 SE) and his ignition lock is seized. It won't move in the least bit. I don't have a manual for his car, and I've never removed a cyilnder from a car like this. I'm more acquainted with the Chrysler vehicles, so I'm quite lost. If anyone can tell me how to remove all of those connections on that enormous ignition concoction, things would be a bit easier. thanks.

before you went to all the trouble rip apart the colum to fix the cil, you did make sure that it wasint just a simple steering wheel in the lock up position right? If the wheel is in the lock position ...... you will never be able to turn the cil over to start the car.

if you checked for that, the grab a haynes manual. It will show you how to take it apart.

If that is not the case, you need to drill out the tumblers.

He doesn't say so, but I *think* the key is STUCK in the damned cylinder.

Step 1: Make sure the battery is connected and charged, and that the cables are tight and clean.
(Sounds wierd, but many GA's will NOT release a key if there's no power.)

Step 2: If you get to the point where the key will turn between off-run-start, but won't turn to 'LOCK', tell us an we'll give the secret method.

Step 3: I don't know.
Somebody else will have to help, since when it happened to me 3 years ago I just called a locksmith. $$.

Good luck.
