I had my drivers door lock cylinder cease up after a harsh winter last year. I replaced it with a new one, worked well over the past year, BUT is now doing the same thing. I can slide the key in but can't turn it.
My question i guess is, are the driver and passenger door lock cylinders interchangable? or r they left and right dependant. I really don't want to spend $100(cdn) for a new one if I dont have to.
Just asking before i rip off both door panels to do this... BTW..its a shibby job if you have big hands.

Before you do anything, try some graphite lubricant in the cylinder.
Can work wonders.
Don't know about interchangability, sorry.

Im tending to think its some arm or linkage in the door assembly.....agh. Because I used the graphite and it didnt corrected the problem. thx for the suggestion tho.
Ne one out there experience this problem?

You know, I had one of my door cylinders go bad on me too--the driver door. I've always used my keyless entry (which is bad because not using the cylinder will lead to problems as well); so I'd always make sure to use it once in a while to open the door. I used to do this a lot before I had a remote started 'cause I'd leave the keys in the ignition if I had to run in somewhere real quick, and then lock the car and use my spare to open the door when I came back.
But after I was rear ened this one time, when I got the car back I had disconnected the alarm and everything for them to work on the car... When I came to pick up the car after the body work, they had locked it of course, but I found they key would not work in the door! Both the shop and insurance refused to replace it because they said "that couldn't have happened" from the rear end accident :roll2: But it was working before so whatever.
Anyway fast forward to this summmer--I decide to take out the cylinder to see what's wrong with it. I tried lubricating it as did you, to no avail.
But once I took the cylinder out of the door and mess around with it a bit and sprayed a lot of silicone spray in and on it, it actually started to turn again! I re-installed it and it's been working fine since :)
I suggest you try taking out the cylinder and fiddling with it a bit like I did as you might get yours to work again as well.
