Today when I started my car, the check gauges light was on. It has been on all day, and I've driven it several times to and from work, lunch, etc. but it's still on. All the other gauges look fine - oil pressure, half a tank of gas, battery, temp, etc. soo... do you guys think it's the dash electrical issue with the 92-95s? I've had other problems with the check engine light or check oil light + chech gauges light coming on after hitting a bump or on the highway, and they will stay on for under 30 seconds up to a few minutes. It was extremely cold today if that had anything to do with it....

The check engine and check oil lights would probably be separate issues. I have the check oil light/check guages light on almost every day. Yes bumps make is go out/come on. I've read that it is the oil pressure sensor. Even though the sensor reads the pressure. It is NOT though the sensor on the bottom of the oil pan. I've already replaced that with no affect. But it could be the instrument panel itself. But the check engine light. Take it in to check for codes. If there are codes you'll need to get that fixed. If no codes then it is probably the instrument cluster.

It's not the check engine light that was on all yesterday and still on today - it's the check gauges light. I thought the purpose of that light was to alert you of one or more of the gauge readings being in a red zone, and none of my gauges are in red zones. All fluid levels are correct and the car runs just fine

However I have had the check engine light come on very briefly as previously described but that is not really my issue.

well tonight when I left for my evening class, the check oil light came on when I started the car. I am parked on a slant on the driveway, and it was 7 degrees out when I left. Check gauges light was still on. After class, when I started my car neither light was on, so the stupid check gauges light is finally off. yay!

Don't celebrate just yet. If it happened once it's probably the start of an annoying problem. It'll happen again, in other words. If you want you can replace the oil sensor on the front of the block. Just below the exhaust manifold. It has 3 wires going to it. And can be removed with locking plyers. No you don't have to drain the oil to replace this one. It costs about $20 at autozone, provided they give you the right one. They gave me the wrong one when I attempted to replace mine. I just put the old one back in. If you replace that and the light comes on again, it's the instrument cluster.

the light also illuminates to help warn you that one of the warning bulbs might be burned out.

when you start the car check to see that all of the warning lamps illuminate briefly before turning off. if one of them fails to light it might just be a burned out bulb.
