i have read on here about the timing advance kit and have seen it on ebay. i seen on here you can go buy the resistors at radioshack for like $1. Could anyone explain to me how to install the resistors? i could really use the extra 20 horsepower.

First off, you will not gain 20 HP. No simple modification will net you that much power. Secondly, this is a modification that should ONLY be used for short term purposes (Like the track), if at all. Long-term use of this may cause premature failure of many components, since it will cause your car to run rich.

With all that said, if you want the directions, you can find them here (http://www.grandamgt.com/iatoverride.html).

don't waste your time. i have tried the resistor and i can't tell the differance except for a nasty exhaust smell. out of all the mods gaoc have talked about this is the worst.

Only real use would be if you were going to spray the car it would add extra fuel for you ot keep it a bit rich instead of going lean and grenading the motor :D

So this thing is really that bad ay. glad I read this cause yesterday I went up to buy one first off they didn't have any idea what I was talking about(I went to radio Shack) and second if it's going to do that then forget it I have enough problems with my car already.

You really cant time a new car with an ECM because it changes it its self. So if you buy the light and hook it up you will see the timeing go from 0 and move arownd a bit. May not make sense in how im wording it but i dont remember exact wording from my class :P. Just let the computer do its thing if your want performace get your ECM reprogramed

I put this mod on my 04GAGT and it changed all kinds of crap.Instead of it shifting at 5200 it started shifting at 5800 and I did notice a difference in performance but I also noticed a difference in gas mileage.

Okay.... he's what that does...

Using resistor, happy knobs, etc allow you change the temperature reading of the PCM.

When DHP tunes a car they use such a device so that they can see what varing temperature will do to the system.

I have a happy knob installed in my car right now.

By being able to control the temperature you can control spark advance and how much fuel it dumps. If you say it's intake is colder than it is will will richen the A/F ratio. If you say it's hotter you will lean it. So in a sense if you have a resistor that tells it's 50*F and it's really 90*F you will rich the fuel up by quite a bit.

It doesn't have jack all to do with shifts. If you have a transmission trying to shift at 5200 there is something wrong with it. All 99+ GA's are programed to shift at 5600 although sometimes you'll see the tach hit 5800.

You don't even know what I have done on my car in the past. I've had a CAI and headers way before the turbo. I still have the catback and the UD pulley. I don't know how many spark plugs types I've gone through. I've run alcohol injection, I've run varying degrees of boost. I've dyno tuned the car for the turbo kit with DHP. I'm getting one of the first high power handling tranny's built for me. I've been the to dyno about 4 times so far with different configurations.... blah blah blah.

I've been messing with these cars for about 2 years now. So yes, I know something about them you insecure doof.

I think you should know who you're talking to before spouting crap like that.

:shake:

No need for attitudes like that. We're all here for the same reason, to learn and to share knowledge. There is NO need for someone to 'know who they're talking to' here. We appreciate that you have some knowledge of the N-Body, but you don't need to maintain a 'God' complex to get respect.

m411b, sorry for the attitude displayed in this thread. :(

Hey no problem<I think we worked it out.Just 2 different opinions from 2 different Mechanics.I kinda shouldn't have made the comment I made either and I apoligized for it.Everything is fine.TY

Not quite. The V6's use a timing chain, not a belt. But even still, it has nothing to do with the valve timing. It adjusts the ignition timing. And the results are undesirable. If you bought one, return it. I do not reccomend you use it on the street, and it has little to no gain on the track either. Think of it as money spent and a lesson learned.
