I'm pretty sure this will work, I just need verification.
I know a 225/40-R18 will fit a 18x7.5 and a 18x8 rim. Will it also fit a 18x8.5 rim?

it might...? You should probably go a bit wider though. I know a 225mm wide tire fits on my 17x7.5 rim perfectly, so it may be a bit too small for an 18.5 rim... and since your car is a 300M, Ill assume; the wide tire wont be a problem with those HUGE wheel wells :D

Actually it's for my other car. I also have a 2005 Jetta. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the wheel clearance the 300M does.

i'd go with 235 to be safe

wow, a jetta. those 8.5 rims with the 235 (probably the smallest, safest size) will most likely rub... maybe if you get a very low aspect ratio... you get them to fit in there with no problems.

It'll fit, but they'll be stretched. I've done it, and I'm going wider when I replace tires come spring.
