Hey guys,

I have a little problem. Today when i went out to go do some errands i Started my car. I pushed the clutch in started it up and then let out the clutch. The car started making this odd noice like a whirl or a hiss, its hard to put my finger on it. I pushed the clutch in and the noise went away. It only makes that noise when the clutch is engaged. The clutch had just been replaced and it has about 1500 miles on it. It was also very cold this morning when I started it, don't know if that will make a difference. Anyone have any ideas what this noise might be.

Thanks,

I don't think that it is the clutch at all. I think it's in the tranny. Did it make noise after everything was warmed up?

I'm not sure i didn't check. I will check it out next time I drive it. I was thinking it could be the tranny as well, idler bearing maybe?

The throw out bearing operates the pressure plate and the pilot bearing is at the end of the transmission spline in the center of the flywheel. Both will make noise when the clutch is in

Which one is the idler bearing?

Is it normal to hear the sound Jason is describing on a regular basis? There are few occasions (if any?) I can let the clutch pedal out and not hear anything (in neutral).
I can hear what to me sounds like the inner workings of the transmission when I am moving slowly and paying attention to the sounds.

I have noticed that when I let the car warm up the sound goes away totally. The sound sounds sort of like a metal on metal scraping, similar to if you were stirring something in a metal cup with a metal spoon. Not very loud but still enough to make me wonder what it could be. Again the sound goes away totally after the car is warmed up. The sound also is there when the car is in gear and i take the clutch out, its just harder to hear because its drowned out by the motor. Serious problem, or just a random sound?
