1989 grand am probs

hey guys i got a 89 grand am 2.5 4tech LE. new clucth after 144,000 miles but i have other problems. like very rough idle. sometimes the car just shuts off and if i HIT the gas it seems like it wants to die sometimes. i really hope its not on its last leg. hope someone can help me out. and if the engine is about to go where and how much would it take aprox to get a new one in it? or should i just sell it and llok for a newr car??

When was the last time it got a tune up with some AC delco plugs? I forget if those motors are distributor or Coils, but if its coils, get them checked out

it also sounds that it could be the throttle positioning sensor(TPS). it could be few others but right now that comes to mind. my friend's clitaurus wagon would crap out on him sometimes when he would floor it and it was the TPS. i dont know...
