Ok tell me if I am crazy but is there a Z22 Cavalier? I've seen many around and hell my father owns one but GAguy keeps telling me there is only the base, LS and Z24

Whos right?

yeah, theres a z22 cavi, just like you can get a type-r dodge truck, peel n stick and then its a new model, dealers just do it with used cars so people think its special.

Jay2D2

they have it on new ones too

so its not an official gm level right? its just a sticker which means nothing. just like if you were to take a honda civic and slap a sticker on it right?

The Z22 is only a sticker on the base model Cavalier. About 90% of the dealer put this stupid sticker on brand new Cavalier to make people think that they got a special Cavalier.

Pontiac made the same thing with the Sunfire GTO (1995-96) and the Sunfire GTX coupe (1997-1999).

I have seen Z22's also and they just seem to be base models with decent options that a dealer puts a sticker on.

I once owned a '86 Camaro SuperSport. Alot of nice Z28 options, but if you look around you'll notice GM never built such a vehicle. It was a vehicle a dealer ordered with certain options adn slapped 'SuperSport' decals on. I've seen a good deal of them to back when I used to own it.

Say what you want about the cavalier, but for the money it's not a bad little vehicle. I'm not sure about the whole z22 thing, never seen that before.

A newer Cavalier with the ecotec in it is actually a lot of fun to drive though.

A guy I work with just replaced his older Mitsubishi Galant with one and offered me a chance to drive it. Good stuff.

I hadn't even gotten to drive one of the GA's with an ecotec in it, but that little engine really does have some energy to it. Good stuff.

If I ever want to buy an extremely cheap new car it'll be between the cavalier and the newer tiburon GT's :)

I agree Cadavaliers are good cheap cars, but they're a dime a dozen, and the posers try to make them foreign

I think I know what he's talking about, it was on the Hot Rod Power Tour last year, with all of Chevy's other customs, it was a blue 4 door Cadavalier with a blown 2.2 I think

AFAIK, the Baretta Z26 was a factory option package, it replaced the GTU and GTZ.

No offense, but have you ever really looked at the cars on the road, I would say the GA is a "dime a dozen" vehicle as well

By doing what to them? I'm not sure what you mean here.

In the April 2003 issue of Sport Compact Car, on page 36, there is a small write-up about a Cavi that GM brought to the SEMA show.

It's a coupe, broght yellow in colour, sporting 19 inch rims and a 220bhp Turbo Ecotec engine. Chevy named it the Cavalier Turbo Sport, and it's a production possibility.

GA, GP, Sunfires, and Cavelier are all dime a dozen around here.

even if they are a dime a dozen (cavaliers) they are still sweet cars, better than my corsica, if i could choose between a grand am and a 2002 cavy LS sport, i would take that cavy without even glancing at the GA... faster, larger aftermarket, good lookin car, and a 5 speed getrag

There is a reason a car is a 'dime-a-dozen'.
Typically because it popular, 'duh'.
Does this make it a bad car? No
Does this make it easier & cheeper to find parts for them? Yes

So whats so bad about having a popular car?
If you want something no one has go purchase a Pacer.

I personally like the J-bodies.
A little on the small size for me, but they kick ass.
Ask Mike Rayna, I'm sure he misses his dearly.
And my little mildly worked over '87 Z24 surprised alot of dub kids.
I'd even bet if I didn't blow the motor (my own fault) that my warmed '87 Z24 with a 2.8 would beat our GAGT.

I have seen some Z22 roaming around here in AZ. They also now hav the Avalanche Z71 and Z66. Z66 is just the 2wd pussy version.

I've never heard of a Z22. :???:

My girlfiend has a '96 Cavalier Sedan with the 2.4TwinCam. It's a great car, it's gave me very few problems, probably less than my Grand Am when I think about it...anyways.... :D

We've done a lot of work to it, '00 Z24 rims, altezza's, and she's currently in the process of putting a 95-99 Z24 body kit on it. So far we have the front bumper. It's a hell of a nice car, will look even better as soon as we get the side skirts and rear bumper. Check out the picture and her registry at J-body... http://www.j-body.org/members/missy96ls/cars/1/

If Chevy were to make the Turbo Sport I mentioned earlier, I'd consider trading down.......

But until then, I like my GA just fine - especially since nobody locally in a J-Body is quite able (YET) to kick my ass in a street drag.......which is more disappointing than surprising, really..... :shake:

Actually, here in Canada(don't know about the states). There is a chevy thunder pickup here too. It is just a reg truck with thunder stickers on the rear sides of the box. Some of you fellow canadians may remember all the gay commercials about them

My girlfriend and I have a 98' Z22 Cavalier. It is true that z22 is even put on the base model. On all regular makes you can have it. Just a sticker. We got it cause it add's a little something to the car. Not like the type R sticker, but rather just a sportier look. And it doesn't make it a ricer cause it actually has what the Z22 stand's for, a 2.2L . It also only comes on a 2 door as far as I know. Another thing I wanted to add was that this little Cavalier hasn't had one slip-up yet. a dealer owned it before us, and we've now owned it for 2 1/2 years now, and nothing. Other than reg matainance. Also great in winter. Drives real good in snow storms.

Dallas your womans cars is very nice!
Not a fan of the sedan on such a small car but the rest of it is very clean. The clear lights on a white car is how it should be done, not ricey at all. Very smooth looking, it complements the car prefectly.

Did they have a 2.2 liter in them then???
I thought it was a 2.3 and then a 2.4 and didn't go with a 2.2 until the new Ecotec? I know my friend had a Sunfire with a 2.4, maybe they are different.

John, the base model Cavalier and Sunfire had the 'old' 2.2L. The Z24 and the Sunfire GT had the 2.3 Quad4, then the 2.4L TwinCam. For 2002+, they switched to the 2.2L Ecotec for all J-Bodies. The 2.4L TwinCam was also optional on the Cavalier LS for certain years, although I'm not sure what rears exactly.

AFAIK, the Z22 was a dealer-applied decal for 2.2L Cavaliers.

The lumina Z34 ws released like in 93, great car. Optional 5 speed, nice hood, nice body kit, dual exhaust 200HP. But the Z34 was switched to the monte carlo in 95 and the lumina Z34 was switched to the LS version. In 95 and 96 botht he monte carlo Z34 and the Lumina LS came with the 3.4 DOHC motor and it was bumped to 210hp. Not manual was offered however.

Now the Z34 from 97 and up have the 3800 and the lumina is only available with the 3100
