I have a 00 gt and my exhaust tips get real dirty. I use mother's aluminum polish when I was it, but it's getting worse and thats not making them shine like they used to. Does anyone know what to do to make them sparkle again?

I use 0000 grade steel wool and then polish with Turtle Wax all metal and chrome polish. Works great for me!!

I clean mine with Never Dull. Here in NYC - especially after this brutal winter - every street has a pothole in it. They use blacktop and tar to fill them. When you go over the patched up pothole, you get tar residue all over the wheels, the underbody, and the exhaust tips. Not to mention all the regular road dirt that accumulates there. I rub the tips with never dull, let it haze over, wipe it to a shine, and further protect it with a little aluminum polish. That works for mine.

I'm with Anthony...

I start by removing excess dirt and grime by cleaning them off with an all-purpose cleaner like Spray Nine, Simple Green or Meguiars Extra. Then, I give them a good rub down with Never Dull. Haze over, then buff with a cotton cloth. Once that's finished, I top it off with a bit of Autosol polish. That stuff really brings out the shine!

Although this isn't the best pic, you can see the shine on the tips after the above process:

Speaking of which, my tips are in desperate need of cleaning!!!

I recently got new stainless steel tips on my car and they got dirty after a good rainshower.

I tried the Eagle One NevrDull wadding polish for the first time and was very impressed. It even took off the brown stain that was developing on the end of the tips.

I have also used Windex and/or 409 to clean the plastic Chrometech rims. Both those seem to take off the brake dust and bring out the shine.

I've had problems with that, but since I haven't done the big spring clean-up, I'll have to remember to get that at CTC...

Mine are getting REALLY nasty right about now because of all the bloody salt the city seems to think we need. (Still trying to figure out hy they want to get rid of all the salt.... it's not like the stuff goes bad or anything).

Nevrdull/Autosol polish/0000 steelwool.. mmkay...

I have found a little household VIM on a soft cloth works very well. It even removes the deposits inside the tip.

Gel dishwasher soap works as well.

A lot of the stuff sold for cleaning cars is nothing more than common household cleaners repackaged, labelled 'Automotive', and the price jacked up.
