my 96 2door see (l4) came with a glass roof with one of them ghetto winding locks. The lock is kinda going (it doesn't stop.. it keeps going around until it clicks the roof back up acouple millimeters so you have to stop winding in time).. eventually it created some gaps for air to flow through. I dont have the money currently to do anything about it so I just bought acrylic/sylicone type caulking. put it all around the outer edge.. still in the process of letting it dry.. running at above 40.. seeing if it leaks.. (couple days process.. figure do it while i'm driving aorund doing usual tasks).. and repatching it when i get a chance in places I can find it may possibly leak. my question is this.. how much would a body place charge for putting a new closing mechanism on the roof and obviously replace the whole black lining fixture that the roof lays on (the part you see outside of the car)..

also.. anybody have any luck with ding kings...?

You'll have to go to apple autoglass or standard autoglass for your repair. Bad news, the parts you need are not cheap! The seal involves dropping your head liner(labour costs!!) but the problem with the "closing mechanism" might not be so bad. There is a threaded cable that sounds like it has slipped from it's zero point. That might be a 5 min. fix!(once the head liner had been pulled) get a glass company to check it out! :???:

damn.. should have waitied to put that silicone there and just fixed the lock.. but the air flow was getting real annoying. do you have an estimation for me? is it easy enough to do it by myself?
