I have a 99 GASE w/ 2.4, planning on going with 62mm tb, ported intake manifold, CAI, p&p heads (probably some other engine work later), ASE performance chip- What are your reccomendations for exhaust. I was thinking maybe header, high flow cat, 2.25" or 2.5" mandrel bent with some kind of gt style split cat back system. edo you think header and 2.5" would be to much. This will probably always be n/a.
Thanks in advance

wow.. you sure do have money to spend on your car for upgrades man.. but my question is why did you get th 2.4? its only 150 hp and a four banger? when you could have spent a little more and got the V6 170 hp and a lot more torque? and do you really want to lose yoru car for a couple of weeks for the chip? not bashing you here or anything man.. but i would have gotten the V6 over the four.. ive driven both and man the 4 seems to lack power for a car of this size.. but yes.. all that sounds good.. and if you get everything there.. well my estimate would be..... 40 hp? thats just a guess.. cause the CAI adds about 5-7, upper and lower intake about 5-7, headers 15-20, and paint and polish heads with the cat back will add another hmm.. thats kinda tough... 12? thats just a guess. but god all that would be damn expensive.. or maybe thats just up here in canda.. who knows... what does all that run for? in canada.. well headers with install would be close to 2000, CAI with install... bout 300, cat back with high flow cat converter.. wow.. that really depends on what you get.. but really good stuff is 1000 and p&p heads.. well i dont know about that

You have to remember that he has a 4 banger so a lot of those mods wont be as much, for instance header: should be no more than $600 USD including installation. He doesnt have a lower and upper intake manifold just 1 intake manifold. Cat-back and high-flow cat would be about $500 USD w/out installation if you go with duals. Total its only about $2,500 USD. But anyways, back on-topic, if you really want a y-pipe into dual mufflers then I would get 2.25" mandrel. 2.5" mandrel for single.

Thanks for the replies I plan on doing all the installing myself, so that will save me alot of money. As for not getting a V-6 I have a couple reasons, first off the price of the car, I got such a good deal on this I can throw some extra money into it and make it perform as good as a V-6 for less money still. The second reason is because I made a bet w/ my brother I could outrun his V-8 truck w/ a 4 cylinder.
Now I have just a couple more ?s-
Are headers going to help w/ a 4 cylinder engine?
Should I go w/ a 62mm or 65 mm tb?
Should I just p&p the heads or should I invest in some kind of racing heads?
Also what other small upgrades might help me out?
Thanks Again

Header will definately help no matter what size engine you have, its just more gains with 6s and 8s since there is way more restrictive. I saw a dyno one time of a header giving 8-9 whp on the 2.4 TC on a j-body. I am not aware of any 65mm TB for the 2.4, unless John (Aleroboy) is also making his upcoming 65mm for the 3400 for the 2.4 too. In that case I would wait for the 65mm to be available. I dont know of any "racing heads" for the 2.4, but I would imagine they are really expensive and mainly for weekend warriors and would hinder everyday driving a little. Some other things that would help you are pulleys (Unorthodox Racing makes some nice ones), theres the obvious small things - bigger injectors and wires, decent plugs. If you have a manual, a lightweight flywheel would be great along with a heavy duty clutch and a short shifter. Engine mounts and a-arms help really well on j-bods too to eliminate wheel hop.

ahhh! well doing all that install yoruself will save you tons.. my biggest concern would be the headers.. and intake.. that could take a shop a several hours to do and thats what gets so expensive.. and about the four banger.. i really had no idea a four banger was so much less for cost.. i bought my car used.. so i dont really know how much new ones were and i had no idea ther was a large price difference.. i was thinking about 3 grand difference.. but thats max.. and in canada too

Header, no "s" sorry just a little pet peeve :) it wouldnt be nearly as hard to do as a 6 or 8 cylinder esp. if you have the right tools, probably 2-3 hours tops. Intake manifold shouldnt be that hard either (no lower to mess with), probably 2-3 hours as well, shorter if you know what you are doing.

Matt sounds like your pet peevs are simular to mine. lol
Anyhow as far as exhaust, I say start at the exahust tips and work forward.
A nice muffler and pipe, maybe a highflow convertor, and a header.
If you haven't done so already a cool air intake. Then work on your induction mods like a larger throttle body, ported or extrude honed intake, and a ported and polished head.
Think of the motor as a funnel. Why try to put more into it when your limited on how much will come out.
