sry if this has been reviewed alot but i have searched but i couldn't get an exact problem like mine so i hope you don't mind answering this for me. i have a 2000 grand am se V6. the problem started when i noticed a burning smell from the car every now and then (comming from under the hood). we took it two shops to check out and they both said that the lower intake manifold was leaking a lil oil and coolant. so we replaced the lower intake manifold but the problem still persists.

problem:

-low coolant light comming on almost every 2 days. sometimes the coolant will be all out and sometimes there will still be some left.

-sometimes when i turn on the heat it will just blow cold air (when it does this the car will overheat), then finally when the warm air rushes out the vents the car will go back to normal temperature

anyway, i haven't spotted any signs up coolant leaking, the shop says there's no signs up leaking either. we just replaced the water pump like almost a year ago. what do you guys think it could be? also when i take it back the shop the are kinda stumped too. help me plz, i'm really considering to just get rid of the car with about 6k left to pay :(

My quess would be the head gasket leaking. Just pressurize one cyinder at a time and hopefully you will find the problem. Usaually its the number one cyinder. Buy pressuring it, the air leaks into the cooling system, coming back out of the coolant tank. Make sure to take the cab of the tank. My 99 was the same way, low coolant light on every couple of days but no leak, even doing a presure test on the cooling system came back okay. But when they pressurized the cyinder coolant came bubbling out of the coolant tank
