Try this ... Water Pump Replacement 3.4L (http://www.accesswave.ca/~kbruce/manuals/Water_Pump_Replacement_34L.pdf) :) ... sounds like if you have all the bolts out, it might just be stuck on the gasket.

Kelly,

I just tried this link and it says it's not there. Would you have a copy laying around somewhere. I've got the Haynes manual and it looks pretty straight forward job but I'd like to check.

Also, in the Haynes manual they don't say to use gasket compound. I know these are aluminum surfaces but it's only a paper gasket. I can't see not using gasket compound like Permatex or something to get a good seal???

This is on a 99 SE 3.4L.

Thanks, Graham

Well I replaced it this afternoon and it was the easiest water pump I've replaced so far. Spent more time cleaning off the old gasket material than anything else. It's about a 2 hour job.

For anyone that hasn't done it. You need a 1/4 drive ratchet with a small extension. 7, 8, 10mm sockets. Pair of pliars for the quick release hose clamps. Belt removal tool makes move the belt easier. And a 3/8 allen wrench to loosen the drain plug. That's pretty much it.

The Haynes manual was correct on the process.

Graham

Just an update. Car runs fine with new pump. No leaks and sits at 200deg. What I found interesting was that I got a new water pump from Autozone with gasket for $21. The pump is made by ASC Industries. It doesn't look like junk. Looks very close to the GM part. I'm sure the Pony dealer wouldn't let me out the door for $21

The water pump is what pushes the water in the top of the raditor so it can drain down through the raditor and cool.

In most cases they start to leak a little before they go. once they go most often the car over heats.

Over heated motors lead to rebuilt motors.

Mine did what typically happens on any GM car I've ever owned that lost a water pump. It drains out the weep hole and gets all over anything in sight because the fan/serpentine belt is usually somewhere close by. It grabs what is leaking it out and pitches it around. In the GA that's exactly what it did. Fortunately my daughter just pulled up into the driveway when she smelled coolant. Shut off the car and noticed a nice puddle. So she was fortunate that it didn't overheat at all. Timing is everything :roll2:
