Im going to the races in chicago this weekend and I wanted to do a couple things to boost my hp and make my car a little faster for when its race time. I already have an air intake. But what else could work without hurting the bank?

Also look at lightening the car.. spare/jack/trunk trim/show up at track with only 1/4 tank of fuel/etc. Every 100 lbs is about a 1/10th off or so. If you have heavy aftermarket wheels, go back to stock (if they're lighter - weigh them on a bathroom scale). Practice launching. Every tenth you lose in your 60' is about two tenths off of your ET. And it's all free :)

How do you properly launch a GAGT, anyways? STi's are easy - rev to 5500-6000rpm and drop the clutch, and away you go. Just stomping on the gas in my wife's GAGT spins the tires until the ETS comes on.

Aside from practice, weight reductions and the like, there isn't much else that's free.

Please keep this topic with inexpensive mods and race techniques. If street racing gets into this thread, it will have to be moved to the racing section. Thanks. :)

Back in the old days it was Sonoco Premium fuel, advance the timing on the distributor, disconnect the generator or remove the belt that dropped the fan and water pump.

I don't know if the new cars will run as fast off the battery. Timing can't be changed. Maybe removing the air filter for max air flow. These are all guesses on my part.

well if the races are THIS weekend, you don't have any time to have any parts shipped to you, let alone anything besides intake thats cheap.

Run the spare too. It'll shave weight.

Where at BTW?

Strip it quick man, all seats out except for the drivers, strip the trunk and all that stuff. Some guy ran a 15.2 with an SE and all he had was K&N and stripped rear.

yeah there arnt many cheap mods for our cars and usially if you are doing something becuase it is cheap....dont do it

basic mods to get a little hp for less in our car should be:
Intake/Exhaust/wieght reduction/180* t-stat/ ect.

others can be:
Cam/Headers/Plugs+Wires/DHP/ect

If anyone wishes to discuss street racing, please keep it in the private racing section. Thanks.
