Gf's car.... So I am a GA newbie so bear with me.

Car as always fired right up. Never had a problem since shes owned it (3-4 years). Never any performance issues. Runs highway and around town driving fine.

Wed. Morning... Took 2-3 trys to start, but it did start and ran fine all day and started again for the trip home from work.

Thur. Morning ... Cranked forever... no start.

Has gas. Little bit less than half tank.

Battery is fine. Tried starting while jumped, it just seemed to try a little bit harder.

Guy who is helping us checked the release valve on the fuel rail ? Fuel just slightly tickled out. No good...

I dont remember hearing a hum or click from the fuel pump, but then again i've never noticed it before. Will have to double check this.

Not sure about this passlock thing either. Im assuming the security light would flash noticeably if it was causing this problem. There also isnt any CEL on anywhere.

Wouldnt a clogged fuel filter show more symptoms than just all of a sudden dying ?

We are leaning toward the fuel pump at this point. Probally dropping tank tonight.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

It could be the filter. if it is clogged that would axplain the lack of fuel.

It is So much eayser to change out the filter, I would start from there. Then move on to the 200 dollar fuel pump. You may find it less, but that's an average price plus or minus.

Sound a little like my 99. Always hard to start and even small backfires or not running on all cyniders when it started. Felt like a flooded car when it finally started. Mine was the ignition MODULE. But even after that it was still had a hard time starting after that, not all the time, so maybe check a couple of plugs to see if they are getting old, like a large gap . I just happened to have the plugs taken out to check for a head gasket leak and my plugs were shot. The planitim tip was competly gone. New plugs ,head gasket ,wires and it runs and starts like new.

got a pump waiting for me at home for tonight (can always return it). Will get a fuel filter today and try that first.

It just seemed odd that it quit so suddenly like it did. When you crank it, its not like its trying to start an old cold motor. It just cranks and cranks.

Good news is, I have someone fairly knowledgable running the show on this one. That and we have access to a lift and air tools for tonight.
