Max towing capacity is 1000 lbs, IIRC.

The information is in your owners manual. I just checked, and the capacity is indeed 1000 lbs. And no, I'm not referring to tongue weight. You drive a compact FWD car, not a 1/2 ton truck.
Just because you 'saw a Cavalier pull more' doesn't mean it is rated to, or that the car will last doing so.
But then again, you seem hell bent on destroing your car anyway, so do what you want. :(

Quoted from the 95 owners manual: "It should never weigh more than 1,000 pounds (450kg). But even that can be too heavy."
It might be able to pull more but transmission reliability might go out the window.

Buy a truck or sell the boat.
Unless your pulling a little jetski, or a little lawnmower wagon FWD vehicle should no tbe towing anything.

I agree. FWD towing in general isn't recommended.

Definatly, if you need to tow somthing, dont go buying an already underpowerd FWD family sedan with an automatic trans, buy a Truck, or dont buy a boat, im sure one of your friends would loan you a truck if you filled it up

I understand your problem, but you'll cost yourslef money tryin to tow a boat, if your only planning on havin the car for a few years and junking it (like i do) go ahead and tow and pray, but the tranny will suffer.
Side note, i once saw a 96 Eclipse es towing an 8 by 4 trailer with an articat fourwheeler and some beat trike up a twisty mountian road strip 2nd gear. Nasty sound, lots of smoke, car was dead...
