Hey guys.... I was wondering... Its all nice and fancy to buy the rsm racing or milzys Motor Mounts...but seeing as the prices went up so much. I mean 60 or 80 bucks for a piece of steel or aluminum with a lil urethane....???

Has anyone ever just got some scrap steel and welded a Solid Lower Motor Mount??? like a bar of steel with two hollow pipe pieces for the bolts to just fit through????
I mean it would be SOLID and not really move at all....
how much more vibrations would you get??/

had anyone Actually done this?? cause there two other motor/tanny mounts, so that should be plenty of damper along with the harmonic damper....

Maybe i'll try it and let ya'll know... I'll just find the right piece of steel and get someone to weld em...

Damn you got a V6

I dunno about here......

(maybe a 3100 dedicated site may have a writeup; quad4forums had one from a hockey puck; a freind I know is making a solid metal one)

Milzy just developed a billet trans mount, it is a very good quality piece but I agree with you that this could probably be done for much cheaper. I myself would probably just get the upper passenger side mount to keep the lower speed vibrations down. If you try this get one of those polyurethane mix kits too.

That only works on the pre-92 Quad 4's, the "hockey puck" mount type was eliminated after that.

Having a solid mount, would cause immense vibrations (read 'broken teeth'...LOL). You might wanna pick up a mouth guard.

If you try this, let us know how it goes. I'd be interested to see how it works out.

I would also suspect, using a solid mount, that other parts would break. The vibrations from the motor/trans have to go somewhere and would end up at the weakest point.

Stiffening the passenger side mount will help with the side to side movement, but the tranny/engine mount on the front will give you the most noticeable difference. The rear mount would also help, but it is a PITA to get at.

I think TEJohnson modified all the mounts, plus he has devised a much cheaper way to fix the mount issues.

you mean like this?

i know a guy who can make this for you - but it'll probably cost about as much as a billet/poly one from Milzy or FFP or wherever. $50-$70 or something. it's the cost of the high grade aluminum that makes them pricey.

i agree about the solid mount causing premature wear on the others. i suggest replacing all the mounts at the same time if you're going to do it.

personally poly/billet is loud/stiff enough for me.

See thats EXACTLY what I wanted to see... that pic is PErfect man.. thanks...>

Well guys i mean older muscle cars are all Solid mount engines...especially dragsters.. and they're not THAT "broken teeth" bad....lol..
I mean most of you have lowered your ride... and stuff.....
Soo your probably not riding like a Caddy anymore...lol....
And I think it SHOULD only be a lil extra engine vib... but I really dont know.... I'm just HOPING...lol...but I'm not gonna do it until I swap my 3100 with my 3400 in the summer....

Oooo which make me think about what I might do to the 3400..lol
I'm really thinkin about making the engine a stand alone...
Distrubtor and Carb lol... it is possible....just would be a nice hard project for the whole summer....lol....the Only real problem in the intake manifolds... upper and lower..... cutting the upper for fitting the Distributor.... and modding the Lower for better intake runners to let the air gas mixture flow better....Toughy....but not impossible.....lol

wow.. sounds like a nice project.. and you'll definately be the only one with that mod.. unless there's already someone who has done it that we don't know about lol. but if you do do that.. you really need to take pictures of the process and do a write up how to about it so others have the opportunity to attepmt it if they wish to do so.

what about trying to get an edlebrock intake to fit?
