I'm always in but I doubt this group buy will work, very few people want to spend hundreds of dollars on engine covers. My strut bar already touches my brake fluid cap, I doubt I could fit a cover on it, how might that work? And what is the point in selling a set? Isn't a set the same price as if you get them all individually or am I missing something? Which thing is the map sensor?

I know most of the people around dont have this money to spend out on appearance parts. These billet covers are meant for the tuners who are looking for the best custom parts they can get. The covers are extremely well designed and are real eye-catchers in shows. Each part leaving our shop is the part the customers want to have and is perfect in any of is aspects. I've already sold many of them since I lauched them on my website and people are really happy to have bought them.

The Brake fluid is a direct replacement cover that is the same size as the OEM piece so there will not have any other clearance issue over the oem piece. What kind of strut bar do you have? it should not have anything touching it...

I'm talking about the set to refer to all covers that are normally found in any car under the hood. Each of the covers are different and have their own application so this is not 5 identical covers. Free shipping when you get the set/5 covers or more.

Map sensor cover is not finished yet but it will fir over a GM map sensor that are all the same size. Here is a picutre aof one on a Quad 4.

It's a Freedom Designs strut bar, but when I had my Ractive one, it was the same way, they just don't have very much arch to them. Does my 3100 even have a map sensor, I can't really tell what it is.

RedGTZ
02-18-2006, 02:08 PM
the map on the 3100 is mounted on the firewall I beleive... it was this way on the 2.8/3.1 for sure but I dont remember on your 3100, all GM cars have these. The map is critical to any fuel injected system :)

You can get in the group buy even if you buy one cover, it does not matter how much you buy ;)

The windshield washer cap fit just like OEM one, it snap in place snuggly. It's a little hard to snap on since it's billet over platic compared to plastic over plastic.

just let me know if you need more infos. ;)

3300 covers will also be made BTW

I am sorry I won't be able to go in on this right now. My paycheck today isn't enough, and I don't want to rack up a credit card balance for this. I won't be using them until summer when classes are over, anyway. Also, at that time I'll have a better job and more cash flow.

The MAP sensor Billet Cover was listed a moment ago on our website, this is a really nice piece to get customized since there is a lot of space on top to put an emblem.

http://mrzperformance.vstore.ca/product_info.php/cPath/4/products_id/40

They sell for $45 and you can get any OEM emblem engraved on top at this price. Here are some pictures :)

Some engines have it installed on the intake manifold and some have it installed on the firewall. Just check out on your application to be sure your is in a location where you can use the cover, if on the firewall, you wont be able to get it seen really good.... but it it's on the engine, it's a pretty nice part to have.

GTZ: if i pay within a wk, u think i'll be able to have them in my hands by may 15th? zip code (53215). I'm moving out on may 15th so thats why I was asking.

Also, the prices for the covers are for plain ones right? Any custom engraving/lettering etc would be extra?

I was thinking maybe have them engrave the original OEM lettering and/or graphic images for each individual cover, if it applies to it.
I'll Pm you shortly of what covers so i can get a grand total from you in US pesos(dollars) :D

recieved my covers on friday . install start today monday.

with the stb covers ,i have tried gently tap with my hand and then with vaslen to install both my stb covers. about 2 inches around both covers will not pop down at all to the tower section. from what i can figure or see maybe ? is that the blk round top part of the stb mount is not perfectly centered or have the exact same gap all the way around the body colour matching mounting hole in the tower area.

this rub seal area around your covers is suposed to fit down between this paint tower hole of the fire wall / inner fender of the car , and that blk round tower mount piece that is held in place with the tower strut nut..

now i will tell you my car has never had any adjustments or replace or work in these areas . and maybe that is why i do not have that anoying looseness or creeking many others have in the stb areas. i have even tried using a thick rag and my hubcap rubbr mallet to push them down flush all the way. no good they easily pop of with my hand with no effort..

ramairgrandamgt
05-30-2006, 01:21 PM
how does the map cover go on. i removed the 2 long screws. but the inside / under the cover void area is not big enough to cover the map and the blk metal bracket that faces the front of the car and were the end of the screws go threw .

the way it looks now part of this blk metal bracket would cover up areas of the polished cover. i am trying to figure out if the front middle section of the actual plastic map sensor can be filed down some so i can fit both the map sensor and the blk metal front facring bracket in side the underside area of the polished cover.

Hello,

Can you have a picture taken from the strut tower area so I can point out exactly why they do not fit good in there. It seems like the strut mount are not perfectly centered on the stut tower hole and this stops the cover to fully engage in the hole... 2000+ has a black metal piece that needs to be centered perfectly since the area is pretty thin for the cover to enter in this area.

Email the pics at sales@mrzperformance.com if you can take some.

Let me know ;)

Okay, for the MAP, remove the 2 OEM screws, you wont need them anymore. Place the cover right over the MAP sensor. The area that is on the front of the enigine bay will be covered by the black braket. The bracket does not go inside the cover but is stay up front. Place the 2 new stainles steel screws thru the cover, map and they should line up in the bracket hole to screw them in the bracket.

Let me know if you have any other issue.

Thanks!

i think it would have looked better had you allowed more room on the underside so to fit that ugly and sometimes rusty looking bracket . and then just add 2 nuts to cap the end of the screws once installed. that backek will show rust stains on the front portion of that beautiful cover. as far as strut tower mounts . i hope you are not going to tell me i have to fork out big cash to have someone who knows how to fool with strut mounts to now fool with my struts etc.

as said i am one of only a few that does not have the struts movement / noise problem others have. maybe that is because my strut mounts were mounted from factory properly or better. i am no mechanic either. tell me there is a simple and cheap fix . please. i will take photo's and send to you mail. in a few minutes.

ramairgrandamgt
05-30-2006, 05:05 PM
here's how my map cover install went. not enough machined out under the cover , so took a few mintutes to file down top back section of plastic orginal map sensor so the cover would slide down over top.

now there is next to no room to screw new screws into the case . your up dead againest the iginition wires etc. and to add to the problem the screws provided are not the same diameter. meaning i gor got on with few front area scratches . because of that front face metal bracket i told you about. and i am dead carefull and plan things out alot .

the blk bracket holes are going to need drilling and re-threading , if you want the screws to hold or stick a nut on the end of the bolt after you drill the bracket holes out . did you try these out on 1999 to 2004 gagt 3.4. and i never did hear about this clitch you were having with the map covers. would it have been the freaking install. i did manae to get the cover back of after pliers did a bit of a job on the bottom of my map as there is no place to gab and pull it out safely , onece it is installed.

the whole reason i vbought this parts was they were easy to fairly easy install ( not cost to me ) and they looked great. now i MAY need a mechanic to help with stb covers and someone who can drilll and tap a bracket you barely can get at.

i smell expensive labour here?????? i knew being last to get my stuff was not going to be good. aspecially with my luck. 4 bad things today lets keep them coming. hand polishing it not going to fix these scratches. and i was dame carefull.

RedGTZ
05-30-2006, 07:59 PM
We got your pictures, thanks for sending them out fast. I have identified what seems to be the problem on the strut covers install. The black metal piece inside the strut tower is not perfectly centered into the strut tower witch is leading to an unequal gap around the covers that we can see in the pictures:

http://www.vstore.ca/secure/mrzperformance.vstore.ca/images/custom/photos/strut_tower_1.jpg

The cover has about 1/8 lip all around where the O-ring is inserted for a tight fit over the strut brace. The gap around the black piece centered is about 3/16. In the pictures, it looks like you have about 1/8 on a side and about 1/4 on the other. Usually this piece is perfectly centered and it has nothing to do with the strut mounts.

Now to have this black piece centered perfectly:

- Raise one front wheel lifting the car with a floor jack. Do not raise it under the suspension arm. You want to suspension to have no tension on it.
- Loosen the 3 strut nuts, do not fully remove nuts, just loosen a couple of turns so the strut become a bit loose
- Move the black piece to the center of the strut tower hole the best you can. You can remove the wheel to help you acheive this.
- Screws the nuts back again keeping in sight you need to center the black metal piece, take care to not overtight these.
- Check back cover fitment.

We had only 1 customer up to now with issues (on about 80 strut covers sets) about having loose strut covers in the past and we done everything to help him out. We want you to love your products. SATISFACTION IS GUARANTEED and MRZ Performance stand behind each products we sell.

MAP sensor:

The MAP sensor cover is a multiple application cover we sell, like you saw, there is 2 holes up on top and 4 on the sides. This is to make it possible to install on multiple applications so you can figure out that the bracket is different from an engine to another. The cover is meant to be installed like in the picture you provide us:

http://www.vstore.ca/secure/mrzperformance.vstore.ca/images/custom/photos/map.jpg

You may have received the wrong fasteners, we had some issue with getting the right stainless steel fasteners from our suppliers cause they are rather long. Your bracket 4MM bolts and the one provided must have been 5MM. We wills send you other fasteners asap.

Let us know and we'll work this situation together ;)

ramairgrandamgt

because of the lack of no instructions / wrong screws / huge lack of space around map etc etc.and me being extremely careful, it still recieved rather deep , too deep of scratches on the front section you just showed and left corner, for hand polishing to remove. i hope you will do something for me .either exchange my cover or give me a few bucks to have it repolished. likely $30 cdn ???

that's hoping zenith polishing and plating is still in business up here. zenith is never cheap and i am going by what they charged me for s/s polishing and some chrome plating, like 15 years ago. other choice is some place in montreal ??

also where are you with the idea i suggested on make us a easier better fit billet gas cap door??? you do i killing on those.

had i seen that the screws were not exactly correct size i could have avoided some scratching. or had the cover of course fit over this bracket . might want to try to change things for better / easier / better looking fit there.

PS:
...you need to make instructions for this item, that sanding the front/middle top section may need to be done.
...how it fits behind bracket,
...that to get at and tighten up and keep your cover from getting pushed againest and getting scrapped againest that dame front blk mounting bracket, it is dame tight. you need to remove that 3/4 inch hose that goes around behind the map and attaches to the manifold, you see part of it with mesh around it too left of map in the photo.
...and disconnect the plastic fastner that holds the plastic cover wiring too another blk metal bracket. see in that photo sit above / across map.
...and when you re-connect wiring grouping ,pull on it to re-position it off the top of the map cover,
...and do not re-use that plastic hose fastner anymore.
...and that that blk metal bracket to the left / passenger side of the installed polish cover is death to the corner of your polished cover, avoid contact if possible.

...that you may need to disconnect the 3 ways the map is attached to the car, ( take it complete out ) so you can sand where i said and so you can safely slip cover over .
so it is no where near those 2 brackets etc when slipping cover over. do it with it connected / your going to scratch it up, no matter how carefull you are.

this job took me near 2 hours when with the right hardware and instructions should have taken me 45 minutes max. also add in your instructions what you told me about the strut mounts.

RedGTZ
05-31-2006, 05:12 PM
Once again sorry for any inconvinience this may have caused to you. You can have the MAP cover send back for repolishing and we'll do it for you. Just send it back with the mail receipt and we'll pay the shipping. We'll polish it back to new appearance and provide new srew if you need to. Let us know if you need them. We have not included any instruction since the covers is a multiple application cover and this it simply slips over the existing part and is held in place by 2 screws. Depending on the car, install time and labor may vary depending on location.

Have you installed the strut covers yet? let me know if you have been able to make them fit properly.

We want you to be satisfied with everythhing you received, keep us updated. ;)

it maybe sometime this summer before i get the stb covers installed now , that it takes some work. i will at that same time install my stb bars . with the stb bars you need to completely remove all three bolts not just loosen then up like you said to re-align these blk center pieces.

got any tips when i go to do both. i hope i can do the caps and stb bars my self . i have 4 jack stands and 2 trolley jackets . after them ??? i think the strut bolts etc get torque to 8 pounds ??? yes the bracket requires smaller diameter screws. they look like 1/8 coarse thread?

monday i will send the cover back . thanks for the re-polishing. i am glad someone is this would stands behind what they sell . not just take the money and flip me the bird. need your complete name / address etc etc for shipping back.

When I installed my strut tower covers I just slightly loosened all 3 nuts (one side at a time) put the cover on and lightly rocked the car back and forth untill I could get it to fit snug all the way down. Then just tighten all the nuts back down and then did the same for the other side.

so no jacking up of car ? then just re-snapped the covers back down when you re-tightened the bolts ? are they staying on? any strut problems because of the loosen of bolts etc etc?

so to install the covers and my rsm front and rear stb bars . i will need to remove these factory tower bolts altogether, and put the bars on with rsm 's supplied bolts etc. any need to jack front or back of car to install bars then the caps ? DETAILS AS TO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO INSTALL both cap and bars . thanks a bunch

Here's the instructions for the one I have (Next Level) strut bars....besides the Next Level is adjustable.

http://www.grandamgt.com/tnlstbinstall-pfyc.html

As far as the strut caps....mine don't move around at all. They fit very tight. No strut problems either.

I don't really see any reason for jacking the car up to install any of the above items.

***Also DO NOT rock the car with the nuts and bolts completely off.....have them in just slightly loose when you do the caps.***

Hope this helps....Paul

Glad you got the cover back, I was sure you had the MAP mounted with the first fasteners so that's why I did not send the other one but we'll do send them to you since you need them to complete the install. We'll ship asap but you can use the OEM's bolt temporarely. Sorry about this misunderstanding.

for light scratches can i use a tube of autosolve . i used in for years on my highly polished s/s parts and i use it for my ga rear tailpies whether they are chrome or chromed s/s i do not know .

let me know asap when you get those fuel door made. remember to work out the fitting bugs that the mustang billet doors cause. so we do not have to modifiy things. i 'll buy one.

please makesure covers bolts are the right thread. thanks PS: how much would you charge me if i could get you to high polish the frt and rear rsm swaybars i have .

your map cover bolts are in the mail, these are M4 fasteners, we got some shorter for you since you said you put the bracket inside the cover. They should fit perfectly.

I can polish your bars if they are in good condition with no major scratch for about $60/each.

ramairgrandamgt
07-04-2006, 11:23 AM
as far as bar polishing that's what i paid for them each on special sale price from rsm 60 us each. think about that. might be a good price if that is cdn and versus a place up here if still around that polishes??

i did not mention i got the bracket inside the cover. but that i t would look better had you allowed room on the underside of cover to do that. the bolts you sent were wrong again i'm afraid. yours were fine thread and 1/4 too short. they did not even make it to the other side of even the cover.

using my bolt messuring tool you need a #8 and course thread and 1-3/4 inches long. am i the only one who bought this cover for 1999 to 2004 gagt 3.4 engines . i must be . my bolt scale goes using the last four messurements 5/16...1/4....10....8.

RedGTZ

yeah, it would be $60 cad, let me know if you want them yo be polished...

Sorry again on this, we got shorter fasteners to you since I was sure you sanded down the MAP to let the bracket in the cover. There must have been a misunderstanding on this between us. All GM fasteners are metrics so is must be like M4. We'll send you M4x45 witch is 1.75 long. Sorry again for any inconvenience this may have caused you. We'll send you the new fasteners asap.

i know the bolts are corase thread , and 1-3/4 long and with my bolt / nut scale messuring tool it does fit perfectly in a #8 hole. or using a ruler about 4 millimeters in diameter. factory ones have like a flat washer built in to them , it moves around but does not remove from the bolt

ramairgrandamgt
07-17-2006, 09:37 AM
well we are definitly getting close . the bolts > correct length , correct diameter . BUT it is fine thread NOT course thread. so i can try to thread them threw but if i do get them threw they will strip threads on either or BOTH the bolts and bracket BUT hopefully they hold and just do not spin around or back there way out .

or i could drill the threaded end of the bracket BUT there is not enough lenght on the bolt to attach a s/s nut > LOCK NUT . again i must have been the only 1999 to 2004 gag ,3.4 owner to buy this particular piece . small problem but a pain in the butt.

so the exact same thing but course thread . DONE PERFECT or if i am to drill it out the bolt mounting hole on bracket i would need exact same thing but about 1/8 longer so i can attach a s/s nylon lock nut .

i will likely get you to polish at some point hopefully this year and hopefully before summers end , my 2 stb bars. there are 3 holes of 3 different sizes drilled on both ends of the front bar . the the edge of each hole need a tiny bit of evening out or counter sunk just a smig .

just to clean the edges equally of the holes up before polishing. this to be done on both sides of the bar , for each of the total 6 holes. can send photo of the front bar to see what i it looks like.

Got you pictures Troy, I'll look at them and let you know of much it could be to have the hole worked out and polishing done. I'll check back on these fasteners also... thanks!

ramairgrandamgt
07-19-2006, 11:07 PM
ya you gave me pricing on the polishing already. as far as cleaning up the outer edges of the 6 holes on both sides of the bar a smig. pretty simple and fast tap tap at the same depth . but i did not have big enough counter sinks for my drill press to do it my self . my stb bars are brand new never been installed yet stil wrapped up. the photo's i sent were of same bars by other owners

Hello Mike,

I'm sorry about you loosing the cover, we only had 1 user up to date losing the strut cover on over 100 sets sold. Usually people dont have to remove them while driving. If they pop up, it's must be caused by the strut bolt hitting the inside of the cover when you hit hard bump in the road. If you want to keep them there all the time, you can grind down the strut bolt a bit so it does not hit the covers.

I can sell you just one and I'll send it for free shipping to you since you are not supposed to loose them. I'll sell it for $30 to you. You can send it with Paypal at sales@mrzperformance.com and we'll do it asap and ship to you. I was wondering if your covers have the dimples on top with the Pontiac emblem?

Let me know about it. Thanks!

Yes, it's the one with the dimples and the arrowhead on top.

Troy - I found out what are the right thread on the 3100 lately and I've ordered new fasteners but they take more time to get than other since they are pretty long for the size. Stainless steel screws are hard to get... :( sorry about the delay again, I'll try them out on a 3100 before sending them to you.

--------

Mike - Your replacement cover have been send on Monday so you'll have it pretty soon ;)
