Ok... I'm swapping out some bulbs on the stock housings.
Instructions in the manual say to lift the two clips and slide the housing forward. Done. No sweat.

Swap the bulbs and I'm ready to reassemble.

Here's the problem. When I put it all back together, I ended up with a 1/16th inch between the lower edge of the lamp and the front cover.

Pulled the housings a second time and reseated everything. Made sure the three guides I could see were all lined up. No dice, still have the gap.

Have I missed something? Or is the front cover just that bendable?

what do you mean "between the lower edge of the lamp and the front cover" ? Do you have a picture? :)

I know what he's talking about, its just not seated right, theres a a moveable rotating guide that has to slide in the hole you have to look in there to make sure everything lines up or the speed claps will only fasten the light housing at the top and not the bottom. Its hard to explain but if you dont get it I'll go look at mine again and give better details, I know because I had this same problem and it made my silverstars shine up in peoples rearviews from my ds head light and at first I thought my lights needed to be reaimed but discovered speed clamps arent all you have to worry about on further investigation.

Well, I guess that explains why my right headlight is now hitting five degrees above horizontal.

Next question. Is there an operational/safety issue here, or can I wait for sunny and 40 degrees to fix it? (doing this at midnight in 30 degrees suxxor)

Ugh....

Ok. Picked up the Silverstars, and caught a break in the weather, so back into the housings I went.

The retaining ring on the right side snapped the moment it I released it. So I spent the afternoon looking for a place that was open *and* had the part (btw, O'Rielly's Auto Parts rocks!).

Ok, so I have all the parts. Get everything in and start reassembly. The right side goes together without any trouble, and no gap! Left side goes together, slight gap, but barely (I almost can't see it).

Now ( :( ), the outside clip won't got back.

Ever get the feeling someone is trying to tell you something?
