Hey guys, I did some searching and haven't really found much of an answer.

I got my oil changed last night because it's pretty much thirty-two below zero here in Minneapolis, and I'm not going to do it myself.

Anyways, the mechanic told me I should probably get a Coolant flush, Power Steering flush, and an Intake flush, but due to the heavy prices, I chose not to get any of them done last night.

I read some stuff on Shell V-Power supposedly cleaning your intake and making your car run better, but I am skeptic. On one hand it ameks sense, but on the other, I believe marketing is a powerful tool.

What do you guys think about V-Power and the whole flushing recommendation.

(I have a 2000 Grand Am GT with 73k on the odo)

i don't know how much reserch u did but shell is one of the 8 gas companies that makes the top tier gas requirments. which means that all of there grades of gas are very good and such. anyway their V-power does have detergents in them to keep your engine clean, it wont make it awesome but it does prevent agaist buildup and stuff like that. u can read more about it at http://www.toptiergas.com/ and also which other companies have made the list, personally these are the only places i buy gas

Very interesting read, thanks for your reply.

Sadly, I can say I've only heard of one or two of the companies on that list, Shell included!

I haven't really driven much since filling up, but I'm looking forward to it.

sea foam in your gas tank will help ALOT. maybe 1/3 can to 3/4ths or so tank of gas... i think i did 1/3 to half tank though... it ran so much better in just a matter of minutes.

vpower gives me better milage by a couple mpg's

What is this sea foam you talk about I have never hear of it till just a few days ago when I was told to use it.

What does it look like?
Who makes it?
How much does it cost?
Does it work better than fuel injector cleraner?
And last do you have a picture of this product?

not sure who makes it, but its about 6 bucks a can, seems to work alot better then fuel injector cleaner... (and you an use it to help get rid of sludge in the oil (if you take it to get the oil changed somewhere else, dump some in with the oil then drive there and let them do a change...

its a pretty good product.

Well. After my oil chagne, I'm almost completely out of gas.

I got about 200 miles per tank of Shell V-Power.

I'm slightly (very disappointed). Granted, I don't know if it's just not worth it, or if due to the EXTREME cold we've had in Minneapolis the last several days, that had soemthing to do with it.

I might give ti one more fill up with V-Power, and if it gives me that kind of awful milage again, I'll say good bye.

I only use Shell and Chevron gas in my car, Shell V power is just more detergents, likea mild fuel injector cleaner, but iv herd too much fuel injector cleaner in high concentraits and for too long can burn up your injectors! So be carful with that fuel injector cleaner shit

I tend to stay away from detergent fuels for the most part.

I generall run a bottle in a tank for two tankfuls when I change my oil filter(about every 12,000 miles, change the oil every 24,000 running AMSoil).

I have a can of SeaFoam sitting in the garage waiting for my next tune up this spring.

How do you figure it burns up injectors? Fuel injectors are not subjected to combustion.

The problem one will face by running too much fuel injector cleaner is drying out gaskets and seals.

Its just how people have described it as "burned up the injectors" prolly not literal

I use STP injector cleaner a couple of times a year. Usually when I fill up and go on a long trip. As far as gas goes, Exxon or BP/Amaco always.

What's your estimated MPG Jeff? Mixed driving and highway mainly?

Mike,

I think I averaged 27.8 mpg on my last trip to NJ. It's a 500 mile trip. Avg speed about 72 mpg. I try to travel about +5 mph above the speed limit. Around town.... I'll say 23mpg. I really don't think my mods have hurt my mileage.

That's actually pretty dang good for the highway milage, Jeff.

I'm planning on filling up with V-Power when I go back to Michigan for Spring Break; I think you get higher gas milage with premium anyways on the freeway.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't V-Power premium only? The GAGT doesn't need premium; it doesn't do anything to fuel with premium if you only need regular.

unless you've had a timing advance, like say, the DHP v1.0 PCM or other custom reprogram. Then you need it. Otherwise, higher octane is not helpful.
