Hey everybody, I am new to this forum and thought I would start by saying that this is one of the cleanest I have ever seen. Anyway, does anybody know where I can find either a 6 speed or 5 speed transmisson that would fit a '99 Grand Am GT? Thanks for all your help.

good luck. no one here has done it to a GA yet, but the tranny you want is a getrag 282 from an older V6 L or J body if you have a 3400; if you've got the 2.4 life is easier and you can swap a stock 2.4 tranny in. awful lot of work to be doing to a first car if your tranny's not already in need of replacement if you ask me. this may cost half what your car did before it's over. you want at least 30% over stock clutch to handle the 3400's torque.
if you've got the V6 you're probably up a creek as far as getting a mech to help you; the 2.4 should be an easy ( but expensive ) swap to get a mech to do.
all is not lost though - i found a mech willing to help me swap over my beretta for about $5-600 in labour. you might get lucky if there's a shop near you that has experience in custom fabrication.
