I'm looking at getting a cat-back system, and I have my sights set on Borla. Would I be able to save some cash if I were to get a muffler, then get a shop to do the pipes? I don't have access to be able to weld, but could I do the piping myself? I wouldn't mind going with a Transvere muffler either. Lol can someone point me in the right direction?

what would be the difference from getting a cat-back and doing a custom one? Is there any performance difference? The only thing that I see is cost

I had a custom 2.5" catback with rez removed and flowmaster 40 series completly installed and welded with a chrome tip for like $230.

I got a used SLP from ebay for under $300. Installed it myself, all stainless hardware, no welding needed.
Look around, there's deals to be made.

they make a full exhaust from the headers back for the 3400... i don't know what it costs but if it's in your budget. but then again there's always just the headers too... if you replace your exhaust from the catback... you'll get some performance gains but not as much as you would from supplementing that with a set of headers. and then adding in a wai or a cai or a hybrid setup like i'm doing. that will maximize your air flow and you'll get max perfomance gains from it as well.

I do have a cai, but I'm not too sure that I want to spend $600 on headers right now. Maybe in the future, in which case though I guess I could wait and get both an exhaust and headers at the same time.
