Okay, I was reading the tutorial on how to custom build the CAI for the 96-98 Grand Am's in the how to section. He used this kit.
There's two of these up, and I don't think the actual filter comes with it.
The only problem I see with a custom cold air intake kit on my car is the sensor that's inside of my intake hose, does anyone know how I'd go about putting that sensor into the new intake system? Otherwise everything else is fine.
Could I make a hole just big enough for the sensor, find a way to seal it in and would it act somewhat normal? or does anyone else have any ideas? I'm on a somewhat low budget so I don't have over 100 dollars to spend, the cheaper the better. Though I prefer qaulity first.
This is the kit that was used. 3rd one down ( usually )

All you have to do is drill a hole and pop it into the pipe using a grommet that you can find at your local automotive parts place(autozone, etc). Get a grommet that fits the IAT sensor and then drill your hole and increase its size little by little untill the grommet fits very snug. You should have enough pipe left over just incase yo do mess up, but measure 3 times, but once.
I put the IAT sensor in the section between the TB and the MAF. Even though it is supposed to be closer to the filter. Almost all intakes have it the same way. Don't forget that if you use this method you will have to cut some metal back to make the hole slightly larger to get around the battery properly. I tried to put it on the underside of the pipe so it wasn't as visible. Makes the intake look cleaner.
I wrote that fairly quickly and should update it so it's a little more understanding but it's just an overview.
I would go with the 2 piece kit that looks like this. You will still need one more coupler though. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8041447554&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fmotors.search.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3Ff rom%3DR40%26satitle%3D8041447554%26fvi%3D1

yeah that's the exact one I was looking at. I have the 94 3100 so I'm missing the MAF ( I have a MAP ), and I saw the hole, it's pretty big by the battery. I'll be prepared to cut it just in case though.
Thanks for the help though...now I need to get ahold of a credit card and get my damn money from my neighbor...I'm about to go knock on their door to see what's up. :bandit:

do I really need 3 couplers though? I don't have an MAF or anything else that will require it that I can think off. One for the TB and one for the pipes right? I have a MAP sensor on my car next to the coil packs.

going through the fenderwell is ok.. but since i'm doing a hybrid wai/cai setup.. with the cone being boxed in from the engine so the filter is away from road debris and water... i'm piping the air from the stock gt bumper through behind the headlight. this is another option for those on a tight budget. it can be done. just have to figure out a way ... and i heard that you had to flash your ecm module if you got cai installed... is that true? somebody said you'd run too lean with it on without a flash.

no that picture isn't of a wai but I think he was just showing where he put the sensor in.
As for 3 couplers...you won't need 3 if you don't have a MAF...

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to ask my friend to buy that kit soon as I get ahold of him, he's a big ebay dude and it'd be easier if I paid him the money so he could buy it and have it shipped to his place or mine.

He just wanted to know how to hook the senors up. Figure it was the same for both.
