Last weekend I picked up my recent purchase in Alamogordo New Mexico, a 1999 3100 with 25,000 miles. It's out of a Buick Century, and seems to be in GREAT shape. It'll be going in place of my 146K 3100 here in a few weeks. Looks like there is a few minor things different, but nothing that can't be changed! Check out the picture... It included everything except the A/C compressor and alternator. If anyone is interested in a good running 3100 with 146K, let me know! I'll probably be selling it over the summer!

I'm confused. Why would you buy another identical engine. Swap out a good engine for another. Dont mean to sound ignorant as I am not very knowledgable about GM, but what is the advantage of the swap?

It has 120K miles less and I THOUGHT it makes 15 more hp and 10 more lb-ft, but I just checked it out and makes only 5 more hp and same lb-ft :idunno:

for a daily driver, its easier to do a straight out swap

It's called less miles, that's the advantage. :D I'm getting ready to head off for school this fall, I have the money right now where as a year from now I'll have no money. The opportunity came up, so I figured I might was well go for it. Besides...I can sell my present engine, since it still runs. Figure I wait until it dies, then I can't sell it as easily.
I'm not into power modifications... I just want a good running car that has good "get up and go." I'm not up to putting a different engine in my car, like a 3400...too much work! Anyone who's will to do that, I respect!

Then why wouldn't you just leave it until the old engine dies?

I'm guessing you go the wiring and all? At one point when I had my '89 Grand Am with the 2.5, I almost put in a Quad 4 HO. But...I had no wiring, so I ended up selling both and getting my '95 :)

Sorry, not trying to sound negative. I am just curious. People in the VW community do all sorts of swaps too :D

Sorry if this is a little off topic, but how come you are here. Im not trying to be an ass or anything just wondering what made you decide to register here? :)

Sweet. If you just have it sitting there now it the time to port out that intake, etc. I know your not for performance mods, but it wouldn't cost much or be that hard to do it now when you don't need it and it's easier to work on.

I read all types of stuff, but when working on or modding another car other than my own I like to read up on them.

Because I am a car enthusiast. Doesn't matter what I drive. We all love the same thing when it boils down to it, just distant relatives. I am a member of alot of non VW boards. Absorbing info and making new friends in the process.
