Hey, I'm pretty new to the forum and cars in general. I just installed a Cai and am looking to put in a exhaust system now. I've got a 96 se 2.4l and don't really want the honda look/sound too it. Something that sounds nice, but without the "not another one of THOSE people!". I've been looking at getting a Dynomax since everything I have read about them says they are good a 2.4, and sound decent (without spending TONS of money). Opinions?

One other thing as well. I looked around the forums and I couldn't find a tutorial or place on installed an exhaust. I'm a pretty hands on kind of person so I would enjoy doing it myself (cheaper that way too.... stupid budget). If you could point me in the direction of a tutorial that would be great... or hit me if I looked right over it.

I don't think there's any How-To's for exhaust install, but you'd want to go with 2.25" pipe, pressure bent, or mandrel bent but it's overkill, and unless you can weld, then use clamps to put it all together. You can buy the pipe prebent from many different online stores, just do a google search. Check out you exhaust system as it is stock, and buy the bends and straight parts that you'll need to replicate it. You can get 90* and 45* bends and then cut then to the angles you'll need. I'd personally rather spend the $200 or so dollars to let a perfessional custom bend it and weld it :)

If it's stick go with 2.5" There is no torque loss whatsoever

Unfortuanetly it isnt a stick.. so I would go with a 2.25. Don't wanna lose any torque. What do you think of the dynomax brand though?

Dynomax is a good brand...had it on my last car. Not sure how it'll sound on a 4 banger, but on a 6 it's deep and not very throaty...a nice subtle rumble. on a 4 banger, it won't sound like a weed wacker if that's what you're afraid of :)

Haha yea that pretty much answered my question. I've actually a got a couple friends who have rebuilt cars before, and one whos in school to become a mechanic so at least I'm not alone here. lol

I have been planning on getting a cat-back with 2.25 pipe pretty soon. I have a manual tran so should I go with the 2.5? What would be the benefits from having a larger pipe. I also am runnin' with the 4 cylinder 2.4L. thanks alot - Kev

If I were to go with a 2.5" how much torque would be lost? Just curious.

Not much. Ask urweak he has 2.5" with a Brola and a Magnaflow resonator. Only thing he hates is his exhaust tip.

Haha ok. I picked up a pretty nice tip for cheap at advanced auto. Hoping to install this thing tonight!

Well I got the muffler installed. Tryed to finesse it at first with a hacksaw.... wasn't working so well so I grapped the sawzal. Finally got the thing in just as it started to pour. Sounds great, and will end up playing with it tommorow. Thanks a lot for all the help guys!

Because these GM 4 bangers have no lower RPM power loss with 2.5". This was probably started by those who dealt with other 4 cylinders; these are a rare exception.

2.25" is a waste on a 5 speed.
