Ok, I have no idea on this. Did a search and no lucky.

For awhile, I've been running a 4 channel amp just powering my rear deck speakers (Kenwoods) and the fronts right from the stereo(Alpine). Last weekend I hooked the front ones up to the amp. Heres my problem. When I just have the acc. on, theres a very faint humming noise. When the car is running, I get the good old engine noise on the speakers. The sound is constant, meaning if I turn the stereo down, the noise is still at the same level. Now, the wierd part. If I unplug either set of RCA plugs, the noise goes away. Only when I have both hooked up (front and back) I get the engine noise.

Any one of the great stereo guru's can help me? :bawl:

hmmm I have the same problem but I thought when I turned off the air/fan/whatever you want to call it that controls the air out of the vents it stopped

Hmm. Sounds like a ground loop. You could try a signal isolator (AKA ground loop isolator). Some decks have this problem.

Sounds like your RCA lines and/or your speaker wires are running along/near other wiring in the car. You'll need to separate them better. Twisted pair wiring also helps reject noise.

As already mentioned, it could be a ground loop too... although my vote is wiring since you're been using this amp before without issue.

I checked to see of it was the wiring and where it was run, and that wasnt it. I'll give the isolator a try. Should I get just get one or will both need it? Thanks guys. :)

I would guess it would work on one pair of inputs, but not 100%

It didn't sound like wiring to me because it goes away when only using one pair of inputs.

are your rca's runnin next to your power wire for the amp

^^ I also had the same problem when i wired up my rear speakers. I had my RCA's run beside my power wire... Not a good idea. I just moved my RCA's away from the power wire and all was good.

But again, that would not describe why it works with one pair of inputs but not both.

I am going to take a shot in the dark on this question but um.. are either one of you running a pioneer deck? I have had alot of customers with a similar problem when running pioneers decks. Lemme know.

Yes, I also have heard of Pioneer having that problem.

If by 'the other guy', you mean me, I tried another set of RCA's. Thats not it. :)

I have an Alpine deck.

first big problem is you have an Alpine deck  :evil2:

ok i dont mean to insult you, but im confidant you ran the power wire and the RCA wires along opposite sides of the car, right. that should eb the first thing to check.
second engin noise is mostly caused by you spark plug wires. i would upgrade to a bigger wire with more insulation.
third, if you go to radio shack the sell noise filters. they work. my friends truck had the worst engin noise ever. it was so loud and annoying. we couldnt figure out why, change plug wires, even bought a brand new amp and radio. so im diggin threw my box of stereo stuff and found a filter a friend gave me years ago. hooked it up and presto, no engin noise.
on second thought i would buy the filter first. they are inexpancive, about 10 bucks

your crazy  here is why i dont liek alpine. i had a clarion deck(used and a remanufactured) and i put it in my car and it sounded great, i mean amazing. the highs were crisp sand lows were great. the thing is the CD skipped on ever little bump. but it was a reman so i said screw it and figured thats why. so i went and got an alpine. they highs didnt sound nearly as good. i only changed the deck. it was just crap. so i exchanged it for antoher one and same problem. the i said im gettin another clarion. put it in, sounded amazing. just supurb.
also my boy wasnt into clarions really. he found a good deal on one. he put it in his car with stock speakers. he said he couldnt belive the difference in sound quality. he is hooked on clarion now.
i did have a kenwood and it was really nice. i had 2 sonys one was an xplode, both were just ok.

dude you live like 2 hours away. come over or ll go there and we will fix the problem :D

back on topic, try to get that noise filter from radio shack. it will work. trust

It's funny, I had the opposite experience with the Clarion/Alpine. The SQ got many times better with the Alpine. Of course, the Alpine I bought was about $300 more than the Clarion.

Well, install the ground loop isolator today and it worked.....sorta. It got rid of MOST of the noise, but theres a little bit still there. It killed about 90% of the noise.

then you have a ground problem

try regrounding your headunit, dont just look at it , jiggle it and be like, yea its ok

redo it all together in a different spot, sand down to bare metal, make a good connection
