- pull down your back seats
- take off your c pillars
- there's 2 or 3 (or 4?) retainer clips holding in the plastic piece under it, take them out and the plastic piece
- IIRC, it just comes right out, sorry, it's been awhile since I've done it.

well the problem is that i dont think my rear seats fold down...they dont have the split so is there another way to take em down?

you may have to unbolt the bottom of the rear seat to get to the back seat part. i know in my 96 2dr gt i have to do that. it's not that hard.. only 2 bolts holding the bottom seat down... then after you get it out... i think 2 or 3 bolts on the bottom for the back seat.. then just push upwards to get it off a metal clip.

if the '05 setup is similar to the 97 i have....then you have to first remove the bench seat (there are two bolts holding that on down where your feet are)....then you have to remove the other part of the back seat (there should be two torx style screws that hold the seat belts in...they also hold the back seat in as well)....once the bolts are out that should just lift off.....then you have to remove the c-pillars...which then you can finally get the rear deck off and access to the speakers....

Good info...thanks. I've got to get mine off too when Springtime rolls around. I've got a damn rattle somewhere in that deck when the speakers hit a certain low bass tone. That drives me up the wall, lol..... That deck is definitely gonna get stuffed with foam or some similar material.

tommy....one thing to try is to stuff some sort of cloth between where the deck meets the back window....that's where a lot of your rattle is coming from most likely....i think matt (matt95gt) put small rubber gromets in between and that helped with his rattling.....just a thought for you to try before tearing that all apart....

i was almost considering trying to do some sort of fiberglass thing with the back deck....but not sure if that would help the rattle at all or not....probably not....

Wow, good tips.. I guess I'm not alone with rattles, lol... I'll try those rubber grommets, because I already have some in my soldering box of miscellaneous stuff. Man, that rattle bugs me, lol ! And for some odd reason, the colder it is... the worse that damn rattle...
Thanks for the tips..

I have done a number of things to get rid of the rattle without actually taking the deck off completely. First I made little rectangular chunks with black silicon sealant paste and let them dry then pealed them off the foil and shoved them between the glass and the plastic deck piece. That didn't get rid of all the rattling, so I ended up pulling the rear seat up off the metal hinges so I could pull the top forward enough to get under the plastic deck piece. Then I folded up a good sized piece of carboard to make it thick and squeezed it under the plastic deck piece in the middle. Then I put the rear seat back on its hinges and folded 2 more pieces of cardboard and shoved them between the head rests of the rear seat and the rear deck itself to tighten up that rear deck even more. After all that, the rattling is completely gone except for one thing - the speakers keep managing to rattle a couple of their screws loose. To do with that I go into the trunk and use pliers to tighten them from the underside, but this is really getting annoying as hell and I'm gonna have to take that damn deck off eventually. I just don't wanna deal with taking the pillars off. The guy who owned the car before me was a f*cking idiot and use the wrong size screws all over the car, not sure why the hell he was replacing screws all over the car but he did nonetheless and I have been plagued by rattling because of it... though I have located and replaced most if not all the screws (I have a feeling the ones he's got on the speakers are the wrong size, I know they're after market speakers so he had to take the rear deck apart). Another annoyance from this guy is he broke almost all of the pieces off the bottom of the door panels that have the screw holes when he installed new speakers, so only a few screws hold the door panels on and they rattle a bit. Ah god now I'm ranting about the damn car, sorry :)

Interesting way to help with that rattling, Adam... thanks. As soon as we get a nice comfy day here in New England, I'll find out exactly where it is coming from. It sounds exactly like you described too, so I'll stuff the heck out of it there.
I get such an annoying rattle when I blast my Metallica and Tool CD's, lol.... it drives me up the wall. Hey, I don't want any more gray hairs in my goatee... I've got too many now, lol !
Take care bud...

best bet would prob be to wedge it. i had mine wedge at first and when i replaced my 6x9s i never felt like putting the deck back which is why its out.

Eliminates the possibility of vibration but also looks retarded.. I think it's absolutely rediculous that we have to remove our seats and the package shelf just to install new 6X9's... So heres what I did to my last car that made the in's and out's more easy. INSTALL YOUR SPEAKERS FROM THE BACK SIDE! Makes for easy removal..

The part that's under the packing shelf has an indentation prefabricated for the stock speakers.. and there are 4 screw holes.. to do what I did you needed to remove the seat and all that yadda yadda but you only had to do it that one time. Get inside your trunk or if your seats fold down lay in there so the hole is directly above you. Put the speaker up to the plate from the bottom side make sure the holes line up and screw the screws right in. I can't see where this was something hard to guess.
