I have a Grand am SE 2001...and for the past 4months my car will mysteriously choose not to start (on some days). But by the time i have it towed to my mechanic it mysteriously is able to start..Leaving my mechanic scratching his head. The mechanic is not able to find a problem. They "say" they tested everything. But i have noticed my security light will come on maybe once every 2-3 weeks and then 1-2days later it will not start. Im thinking it's my ignition or pass lock or something. We just had fuel pump/filter replaced 1-2months ago.
Symptoms
engine turns but thats it....
If put in neutral when trying to start sometimes it will actually fire up but then quickly dies.

Sounds like passlock. Usually the security light is on and while it wont start. If wait about 10 minutes it usually will start again. I think passlock has something to do with the key. So maybe check if the key is worn if you have a spare to compare it to. But I'm not 100% sure about that.

Ok ..after reading the threads posted a little more i see others have had the same porblem. Aftre letting my car st there with key "on" (after 10min) till security light stops flashing then will start. You think it may be the ignition? If so anyone know how hard it would be to install/?

it happens a lot because u have to much crap on your keys and it is to heavy and puts a lot of pressure on your ignition cylinder, either you or the person before u did it, if it is is take the stuff off your keys, u don't have to have to replace it, it is very expensive. the 10 minute thing will always work i would just use that

Can you disable it? Like, my moms car, doesnt have it, like, the security light has never came on, not even on start up, and wev never had a glitch, i think the previous owner had a security system in it aftermarket with remote starter, so he left it disabled, but the panic button still works. its a 99 GAGT BTW
