Since I Bought the car back In December, Its been having this extra vibration when its in drive, I know the torque convertor is engaged beause its an automatic ( driven 5 speeds for hte past few years ) first automatic car ive owned, is this normally? I rememeber my dads automatic saturn and my mothers suv both automatic, never vibrated this excessivly, when I put it in neutral it goes away, and the vibration only happens when stoped, the car has 58k miles on it, and was maintanted prety well, Is there anything that can be done to relive some of this stress, possibley a tranny flush or something along those lines, or its something that all GA's do, and im being over reactive, any comments or suggestions I would be greatful
Thanks

Does it happen when you are stopped and have it in drive or when you are driving? What gear does it happen in?
Have you checked the engine/tranny mounts? Are they worn out...or have they been upgraded to polyeurethane? This could cause the vibration.

Hah! Hey Ryan
I haven't though about this, Im using to having saturns with horrible mounts, I have never heard of anything bad with Grand Ams mount, I might want to check that out, As fars as fluids goes, there is no dip stick for automatic tranny, is there another way to check this?
This Happens when Im in D, 1,2,3, when STOPPED and DOES NOT happen when Im in N/P
Once Again Thanks

theres a plug on the tranny, no dipstick, its under the airbox! My auto teacher says its his favorite transmission to service, empty it, and fill it up to the threads on the plug and your set. Although i dunno if you have to have it runnning to make sure its full or not, lol,

When I upgraded my lower motor mount to polyeurethane it made the whole car shake more when it was idling in gear, also right when I accelerated. I want to say that's what it is but I have no idea. It could be something mechanical. I would take it to a shop and have then take a look.
As for the level of fluid with the tranny. My '96 has a tranny dipstick, but yours is a little different. Check out this thread...http://www.gaownersclub.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=6703

Sounds like engine mounts. My wife had a Cavalier that did the same thing.
