Hey everyone. I was thinking of a cheap mod to do as an icebreaker with my new 99. What I was thinking was getting a "Grand Am" 3rd brake light overlay, and dbadging the trunk.

Do you think this would look good. The only reason I ask is because I never see anyone here using one of those overlays.

Or do you think I should just debadge it al leave the trunk lid clean?

I think the overlays look good. I don't have a close-up pic of my car, but you may get the general idea. I am sure somebody here on the forum has a better shot

Edit: I have a black Grand Am GT overlay...

So I guess I should atleast get it color matched, right?

Could I just get it black and spray paint it? Cause black is cheaper.

well its like.. 7 bucks more? you cant be THAT tight up for money, but i donno if spray paint will work. I've had it for almost a year with no fading, no problems. Put it on there, quite simple... put the 2nd layer, which is the color directly ontop of the black one, which takes alot of patience... and once the 3rd brake light was put back on my car, I havnt had to worry about it anymore. but the plain black ones on cars is just... bleh. ugly... looks like the person was right lazy and couldnt get the 2nd color on right lol. Its quality 3M stuff, so its reaaaally worth it. I like the complete covering ones, rather than the "Halo" type ones that only cover the main part of it, but not the sides... but I got mine from grafxwerks.com too.

hmm, I originally didn't like the idea of this, but these pictures look pretty good.

personally, I would probably do what tenspeed did and replace the lights with cold cathodes so the light doesn't look like its cut into three sections (because of the three bulbs). If I ended up doing that, I would also consider clearing the red out of that lens and replace it with plexi.

yeah but thats not the quick & easy way. besides, with it saying Grand Am, you dont really notice the 3 diff bulbs with all honesty.

I got mine from customgrandam.com and I don't think they charge additional for other colors... I might be wrong but check it out.. I bought mine over a year ago...

it looks like they just use one overlay for the color. Meaning if it going to be white, the red will just go through the white vinyl. If you want your order shipped like asap, go to grafxwerks.com.... i bought something literally at 5:26, and at 9:23, my order is finished and will be sent to me tomorrow. And that was for 4 different things lol. Talk about commitment :p

No arguments from me there.... I have bought stuff from them (grafxwerks) as well.. and Ryan Curie (I think that his name) is just a great guy to work with..

debadged, and color matched led look overlay

Thanks for the compliments everyone! And Mike is correct, for the colored overlays I ship 2 pieces to fully block the light, except where the cut-out lettering is. Otherwise you end up with the light shining through the vinyl and its hard to read.

Hey ryan, I noticed you put my pic on the GAGT ones, you could put it for the GA SE ones aswell. cuz really my car is an SE, but theres no other pics on the SE part of the 3rd brake light overlay area. (I hope you know what i'm talkin about :))

Well, the problem is that I offer 2 different designs... the "Grand Am" is available in the SE-style font (non-italic) and in the GT-style font (italic). You went with the italic look, which is the GT-style. If I put it in with the SE pictures, it would be misleading.

True, however, you are debadged so who would ever know? :) Actually, the mudflaps are giving it away, damnit!!
